Released in cinemas today, June 25th, Grown Ups is an upset of what used to be hilarious and fine comedic stunts of its star and co-writer Adam Sandler. Although it still contains the “Adam Sandler factor” that moviegoers would love, for movie critiques, this has been another tragedy. The movie starred Kevin James, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello and Maya Rudolph, and was directed by Dennis Dugan. The story is about five friends who were reunited 30 years after their high school graduation at the Lake House on the 4th of July. Here, they reminisce how they became champions back some decades back. As they looked back and picked up from where they left off, they realized of growing old is not equivalent to growing up.
Those who have already pre-screened and saw the movie were not delighted by the middle-aged themed movie. Some said the after 10 minutes, the sparkle and laughter was lost. The story telling and pacing were both lazy and lame. This was actually a good chance for Sandler and friends to gel and show their chemistry on screen, but it turned out that this film has become redundant and tiring as it progresses middle to the end. Sandler’s audience will still pay for the price and probably laugh their hearts out, but would be dim to not notice the lack of comedic element. Sandler should pick up on his next movie and save himself from mutilation.
Director Dugan also directed Sandler’s recent movies like You Don’t Mess Up with the Zohan, Happy Gilmore and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. He also starred in some 80’ flick.
