Aside from the likely two “Avatar” sequels on the works, James Cameron is returning to what he does best as he is set to produce the remake of 1966 sci-fi film “Fantastic Voyage”. The adaptation to be written by scribe Shane Salerno under 20th Century Fox would line up with his previous production work in some “Terminator” sequels.
“Fantastic Voyage” tells the tale of a terminally ill scientist who shrinks his colleagues and injects them into his bloodstream to help save his life. Cameron would use the same visual effects seen in “Avatar” as long as Salerno can write an interesting script for the yet-to-be-named director. Previously, director Roland Emmerich for “2012” was considered for the part but eventually he had to drop out for conflicts in schedule.
In the field of making sci-fi films, Cameron has established a name for himself as producer. However the fate of the film is yet to be known until a director is named to work alongside with him.
Meanwhile, Cameron is thinking of helming two sequels for “Avatar” which could only be possible if the expensive technology used in the original film would be available for the next two and if Cameron personally has the time to work on a storyline. Fox has yet to confirm if there are any concrete plans.
