Aside from taking a whole new spin on the “Batman” series with “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight”, Christopher Nolan has just recently been enlisted by Warner Bros. to also mentor the film development of another superhero, “Superman”.
Exact details on Nolan’s involvement in the project are yet to be known. The only thing sure right now is the assurance that the upcoming feature won’t serve as a sequel to the disappointing “Superman Returns” which only managed to take home $200 million domestically from a higher $270 million budget. Reports indicate that the new project is a complete overhaul for an all-new franchise.
People had been speculating Nolan would be assigned to direct the film as well. However most experts and media agree that the possibility is slim as the director is extremely busy helming the third edition in the “Batman” franchise.
Nolan’s own version of Batman seen in “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” remain true to the visions of Frank Miller’s graphic novel series. Here he explores the dark themes of a superhero facing with his inner anxieties. Under his direction, stars shone brightly as Heath Ledger earned an Oscar for his award-winning performance as the Joker.
Looking back, a dark side doesn’t exist for Superman meanwhile, but a few themes consistent with “Batman” may be incorporated. As well all know Superman is the lone survivor of the planet Krypton, making him an orphan and complete stranger to the planet Earth. Nolan could work his magic around his feelings mostly focusing on his isolation and inner depression.
For the meantime, viewers could look forward to “Inception” penned, directed and produced by Nolan himself on the 16th of July starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
