Conan the Barbarian starring Jason Momoa

For many years now, both Lionsgate and Millenium films were working double time to create the remake of the “Conan the Barbarian” franchise. However the film had met several unexpected setbacks along the way that pushed the production date way off schedule. The first hurdle was caused mostly by the Writers Guild Strike which prevented the production from progressing forward on the project.

In 2008, everyone thought the film was finally back on track as director Brett Ratner became officially attached to begin production as soon as possible. During that time the studio was confident the film would finally push through for a 2009 release, even going to the extent of releasing a teaser poster though no stars have been cast yet. Unfortunately, all hopes went down the drain when in 2009 Ratner left the project.

With the entry of 2010, this may finally be the film’s year to succeed. Director Marcus Nispel is now signed on to helm the film which is set to start filming in Bulgaria on March 15. Aside from this, an actor has finally filled in the shoes of the titular character Conan. Taking over the lead role is none other than the former “Baywatch Hawaii” dude Jason Momoa.

Rumors have been circulating the net recently that alongside him, Mickey Rourke would be taking on the role of Conan’s father. The studio has yet to confirm his official involvement. In the coming weeks, it is expected that more and more news on the official cast members would be released. For the meantime, there’s been no word on the newly scheduled release date but the possibilities are high that it would fall on the summer of 2011.
