‘Dracula’ to be Played by Sam Worthington?

After the worldwide success of “Avatar”, Sam Worthington is on his way to signing up for his possible next project: as the leading man for the upcoming “Dracula: Year Zero”.

Recently Universal confirms that Worthington is in talks to star in the forthcoming period drama. The movie would narrate the origins of Dracula through the history of the famed prince, Vlad the Impaler, the known inspiration for the famous 1987 novel of Bram Stoker. “Dracula: Year Zero” aims to portray the legendary figure as a flawed hero with a tragic love story in the dark ages where magic and war ruled the era.

Taking over direction from a script penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless is director Alex Proyas. No start date for production has been released yet but the film is already scheduler for a summer 2011 release date.

Worthington will next be seen on the big screen in Hellen Mirren’s thriller “The Debt”. Meanwhile, his next scheduled project is to star as the Greek hero Perseus in the upcoming film “Clash of the Titans”.
