‘Ghost Busters 3′ Confirmed!

Earlier in the series of promotions for “Avatar”, Sigourney Weaver heightened the buzz for “Ghostbusters 3” when she slipped the news that Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) would be returning for the third installment as a ghost. She also let fans in that the son of her character in the series, Oscar, would be taking over the family business.

Recently, director Ivan Reitman confirms the news and gladly announces to avid fans and viewers that indeed a script is in the works. In line with Weaver’s statement, the film would be focusing on a new generation of Ghostbusters. However Reitman didn’t confirm Weaver’s statement on Murray’s return wherein he “could come back as a sort of Slimer character.” Currently the script is being written for a potential 2010 filming date.

In her earlier interview, Weaver relates her excitement on the concept of the third film saying, “I guess my little son Oscar who was kidnapped is a Ghostbuster, which makes me very proud.”

The three original Ghostbusters, Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis have yet to confirm their involvement in the latest installment. Weaver speaks of the trio saying, “They’re great guys and they work so well together. It was such an extraordinary ensemble to be a part of. I’d love them to have a lot to do with it. I don’t know if that’s true. I think it came from them. But I hope they’re all in it.” Like her hopes for the original team, she’d also be delighted if she were cast to return as her character Dana Barrett. Other original members of the previous films, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and Annie Pots attachment to the film hangs on the line at the moment.

Fans for the meantime would have to wait for the official script and cast release for “Ghostbusters 3”.
