With the massive success of “Twilight” and “Harry Potter”, studios in Hollywood are now eager to seek their next big teen franchise. Currently, a bidding war has ensued over Ally Carter’s first book in a series of young adult thriller novels, “Heist Society”. Beating big names Disney, Paramount, and Summit Entertainment to the book described as “The Thomas Crown Affair” is Warner Bros.
Arriving on stores next week, “Heist Society” tells the story of Kat, the daughter of a family of cat burglars and thieves. For long now, she had wanted to leave her other life behind however she’s been needed to return to action when her father becomes the prime suspect in the theft of a missing art collection. Kat now needs to create her own crew to track down the art and steal it back.
Carter had been the famous author of teen novels including the three-part novels on Gallagher Academy, a top-secret boarding school for girls who are actually training to be spies. Disney has already grabbed the right for this series early on. Meanwhile, though the original book for “Heist Society” places the girl’s age in her teens, for the movie, the studio will convert the character into a much mature early 20s for the big screen.
Attached to helm the screenplay is scribe Shauna Cross with Denise Di Novi producing.
