John Krasinski Up for ‘Captain America’ Role

The Office” star John Krasinski is lining up to earn the title as the next great superhero on the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports that Krasinski is among many actors who are undergoing a screen test for the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in Joe Johnston’s upcoming movie adaptation of the famed comic book.

Joining him on the list to test for the role are Michael Cassidy of “Smallville”, the young weakling-turner World War II hero, Patrick Flueger of “The OC” who became known for his roles in “The 4400” and “Friday Night Lights”, and “Cloverfield” stars Scott Porter and Mike Vogel. Rumors had also surfaced that “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford is also in negotiations to test, however nothing had been confirmed about this recent update.

Meanwhile, Cinematical reports recently from an anonymous source that Krasinski is “all but a sure thing for the role”.

However if the casting was based on appeal to fans, Krasinski and Crawford would automatically be dropped off the list. Their current TV shows are too far off from the Cap. It remains unseen whether these two are capable of stretching their acting skills to accommodate the role and the demanding audience.

A much better choice would no doubt be Porter who not only possess the looks but have received respect previously from comic book fans. He’d made it public before how much he loves comic books himself.

For such an iconic role, it would no longer be a surprise if producers would opt to cast a lesser-known name such as Porter or someone even completely unknown to avoid skyrocketing expectations from the actor.
