Mark Strong to be ‘Sinestro’ in ‘Green Lantern’ Movie

Regular “Green Lantern” comics scribe Geoff Johns confirms today through his Twitter what had been rumored for the past few weeks now. Earlier in the midst of January, Martin Campbell himself dispels the early speculations that Jackie Earle Haley was up for the role of Sinestro in the upcoming DC Comics / Warner Bros Pictures “The Green Lantern”. He firmly corrects that “Sherlock Holmes” star Mark Strong was the most likely go-to-guy to portray the controversial character. Back in the 15th of January, reports confirmed that Strong was already in negotiations to take on the role of the villain.

Campbell shares his delight with the possibility of having Strong on board saying, “He’s not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro. If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he’s very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life.”

Recently, Johns finally ends rumors with his tweet saying, “Ryan IS Hal. And Mark Strong is going to be a brilliant Sinestro”. Then his following tweet shares offers more insight on what to expect from the film as he shares, “Kilowog, the Guardians, Oa…all breathtaking. The age of Green Lantern is upon us!!”

With this latest update, it’s now officially confirmed that Mark Strong has indeed taken on his shoulders the role of Sinestro, the Green Lantern corps. instructor who turns into Hal Jordan, the hero’s nemesis.

Strong officially joins the cast consisting of Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and more.
