My Fair Lady Movie Remake

My Fair Lady Movie Remake

British director for 1998’s “Shakespeare in Love”, John Madden is in negotiations to join aboard Columbia Pictures remake of “My Fair Lady”. If he settles in, he would be working with producers Duncan Kenworthy and Cameron Mackintosh for this version.

Unlike the 1964 classic starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, the remake would remain more loyal to the original sources. In the ’64 version contrary to the original, Eliza and Higgins would get married but the new film would be opting to keep the classic plot. The screenplay would follow Shaw’s “Pygmalion” from which “My Fair Lady” was based and Alan Jay Lerner’s original stage book.

At the moment, there is no Prof. Higgins or Eliza Doolittle attached to the film yet. Keira Knightley was highly speculated to portray Eliza but she confirms earlier this year that she isn’t attached.

Directors who were also previously linked to the remake include Danny Boyle, Baz Luhrmann, and Stephen Daldry. Currently Madden is busy completing production for Miramax’s “The Debt”.
