Director M. Night Shymalan’s long awaited ‘The Last Airbender’ set to be released July 2 of this year is heading back to the lab. Just like most other movies, ‘The Last Airbender’ is jumping on the 3D bandwagon. The same company that worked with James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’, Stereo D will be working with Paramount on the 3D adaptation.
According to the report, Shyamalan is very picky about his movies, so he must be completely convinced that the movie in 3D must be absolutely perfect.
‘The Last Airbender’ is based on the Nickelodeon cartoon series, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’. Paramount is set to release the film in the United States on July 2nd, and August 13th in the United Kingdom.
The story is based on a world of four nations: air, water, fire and earth. The story is about the main character, Aang who is born to his destiny of being the last avatar left with the power to manipulate all four powers of the four elements.
Aang is discovered by Katara and her brother Sokka of the water nation and they join forces together to restore balance in the world, that of which was destroyed when the Fire nation declared a century of war.
Along with ‘The Last Airbender’ the most recent film to also jump on the 3D bandwagon is also ‘The Green Hornet’. EW has confirmed that Michel Gondry’s film starring Seth Rogan portraying a newspaper publisher who has a secret identity of fighting crime after his day job, will indeed head to 3D version.
However, since it will be re-done into 3D, the release date has now been pushed back December 22,2010 to January 14, 2011.
Sony has planned for ‘The Green Hornet’ to be released later to avoid the competition with the cluster of films that will also be released during the holiday time. Some of which include Disney’s ‘Tron Legacy’, Warner Bros. ‘Yogi Bear’, and Fox’s ‘Gulliver Travels’.
