‘True Grit’ beats ‘Fockers’ With $15 Million

‘True Grit’ wrestled well for the crown at the box office beating ‘Little Fockers’ for the very first time. It grossed about $15 million coming from a total of 3,124 theaters. It was able to quickly jump to being one of the top grossing Western films of all time and it shows no signs of stopping. It is really quite uncommon for a film to move to number 1 even in its third weekend already. ‘Fockers’ on the other hand reached about $13.8 million. The two films find it easy to beat ‘Season of the Witch’ which came in at number 3 with an estimate of $10.7 million. Expectations were a bit put off to silence for ‘Season of the Witch’ and ‘Country Strong’.

It was a bit of a slow weekend compared to the run last year when it was ‘Avatar’ which lighted up the domestic box office with a gross of $50 million. Revenues for this year went down for about 30%. But there was good business for the overseas world. ‘Season of the Witch’ gathered up audience made up majority of Hispanic moviegoers. But overall, it had some problems with getting younger sets of male audience. On the other hand, ‘Country Strong’ with Gwyneth Paltrow came up beyond the higher expectations of Sony. It even fared better than ‘Season of the Witch’ which drew a B CinemaScore comparing to a C+ rating for the ‘Season of the Witch’.

‘Black Swan’ can possible reach $100 million if it never stops to be on its toes in the box office by Jan. 14.
