Twilight author Stephanie Meyer’s website officially debuts the tracklisting for the highly anticipated “New Moon” soundtrack. Released a month ahead of the film, the official soundtrack appears both in stores and online. Chop Shop label in association with Warner Music group imprint Atlantic once again releases the album.
The album features original tracks from the hottest indie-rock acts the Killers, Grizzly bear and Death Cab for Cutie who performs the single for the movie, ‘Meet Me on the Equinox’. Contributing songs to the soundtrack as well are previously speculated Radiohead’s frontman Thom Yorke and Bon Iver. Muse, Meyer’s favourite band also contributes a remix of “I Belong to You” taken from their just-released album The Resistance.
With artists such as Yorke and Grizzly Bear’s – whose fan base are older and more mature than average Twilight fan – contribution to the soundtrack, the franchise could reach out to a new audience aside from the already raging teenage fans. The indie vibe of the album also draws teenage Twilight fans to fall in love with a fresh collection of bands that’s more than willing to sell their tunes. The soundtrack benefits the film, the musicians involved and avid fans. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the music industry profits well from the franchise as the previous soundtrack has sold over 2.2 million copies.
