It’s no doubt the age of sequels and 3-D films today. Reports confirm that Foresight Unlimited is pushing through with the fourth installment of the hit “Universal Soldier” series. Kicking up the hype, the upcoming film would also be embracing the highly popular 3-D format.
In the original 1992 film directed by Roland Emmerich, Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme star as slain Vietnam War veterans resurrected from the dead to become perfect weapons. This was followed by the sequel “Universal Soldier: The Return” in 1999 which only featured Van Damme in solo. Last year, the third installment “Universal Soldier: Regeneration” saw the reunion of the two leads as Lundgren reprised his role. Hopes are high that the duo would once more be returning together for “Universal Soldier IV”. Sources say negotiations are still underway with Van Damme.
“Regeneration” director John Hyams would be returning to the directorial seat for the fourth film. Shooting is expected to begin this coming October.
“Universal Soldier IV” will be one among three other projects Foresight Unlimited is bound to sell on Cannes. The film would be joining the $35 million project about a former FBI sniper returning to action after his ex-wife becomes a deranged sniper’s target “Recoil”, “Flypaper”, and the recently wrapped “The Ledge”.
