Viggo Mortensen and Kristen Stewart to star in ‘Snow White’ remake

Hollywood used to make a lot of original films, now they are redoing a lot of films, especially the classic ones. The recent classic that will be receiving a makeover is “Snow White” courtesy of Universal pictures. Viggo Mortensen is said to start in the remake. According to Variety, Michael Fassbender showed interest in the project, but signed for a role in Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus.”

On the other hand, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Kristen Stewart is the top choice to play the lead role, Snow White. Although Universal Pictures has conducted screen tests with various actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones, Alicia Vikander and Emily Browning, Universal pictures still eye on Kristen Stewart even without the screen test. The actress is just rounding up her commitments in the “Twilight Saga.”

Joe Roth is the producer of this remake of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale. He also produced Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.” This current project is entitled “Snow White and the Huntsman.” The Huntsman will be played by Mortensen.

In this film, the huntsman is ordered by the evil queen to kill Snow White but became Snow White’s protector and they are on the run from the queen. Charlize Theron is said to play the role of the evil queen.

Universal pictures won the bidding that was conducted last year. The studio payed a low-seven figures to snatch the project. Shooting starts this summer and the film will be released on December 21, 2012.

Roth is also formulating another project, which is a prequel of “Wizard of Oz” entitled “Oz: The Great and Powerful.” Johnny Depp showed interest in the project.
