Who Will Play Ronald Reagan?

However you look at it (American hero or president with ill-advised policies), the 40the President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, made an impact on the country’s governance and at the life of every American. His pervasive influence catches even people from Hollywood.

Are you ready for a biopic of Ronald Reagan? Screenwriter, Jonas McCord, who wrote “Nixon”, “W.” and “Primary Colors” is currently working on a script that will tell the story of Reagan’s rise to fame and power from his humble beginnings as a small town boy to a movie icon in Hollywood.

The film is being developed by the prime producer, Mark Joseph for the probable release next year. Although it can be expected that the film will have a political slant, especially when McCord bluntly said his opinion and disdain to Reagan’s political record. However, Joseph will surely create the balance.

Joseph exclaimed that this is a great project and was inspired by the love of people for the man. People lined up and waited for almost 10 hours just to get to see the closed casket of the former leader.

The main question remains of who will play Ronald Reagan for this upcoming film? Here are some of the actors that can be perfect for the role and it is up to the audience whom they think fit best for the character.

  1. Tom Hanks – Hanks can fit best to portray Reagan’s Midwestern values and city slicker charm. It will need some of the popular movie magic to de-age him for some of the flashbacks that will occur in the film.
  2. James Franco – This “General Hospital” resident can prove that he has that acting chops and abilities, even on big roles such as playing Ronald Reagan in the film.
  3. Jon Hamm – With his looks that are quite similar on the look of the former president, he is definitely up for the role. Moreover, he is no longer a novice in period films.
  4. Hugh Laurie – Like the others in our list, Laurie has the talent and charisma that is badly needed for the role. Also, he can express the accent of Reagan.
  5. Jaoquin Phoenix – Years back, Phoenix is considered as a bankable star after he played Johnny Cash for “Walk the Line”. This could be a great comeback movie project for him after taking his rapper role for mockumentary “I’m Still Here”.
