Diablo Cody of Juno reunites with the film’s crew in helming a new movie aptly titled Young Adult. He will be setting up a new original screenplay. The movie will look into more adult issues and follows the account of a thirty-something divorcee fictional writer who returns to her hometown only to find that her ex-boyfriend is now married with a child.
Although the film might amount to predictability and expectedness of storytelling, there’s no denying that Cody can turn a humdrum tale into something exciting and fun to watch. Only time can tell and his announcements if Young Adult will veer more towards drama.
All the major players who collaborated on Cody’s Oscar-winning Juno will be on board for the film. Mandate Pictures, which selected the Young Adult script, has the project on the high-speed track while it searches for a director along with Mason Novick, Cody and Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith producing, and Mandate president Nathan Kahane and John Malkovich who will be its executive producer.
Cody is slated to be proliferated with projects thrown her way. She’s set on an adaptation of the Sweet Valley High books which is in development at Universal and The Taming of the Shrew for Paramount. Cody’s last motion picture project was Jennifer’s Body starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. While Cody’s evidently had success as a solo act and as a talented scribe, fans will have to wait a little longer to see if her team Juno can re-establish the thrill of watching most of her movies. Plus, she continues to pen and executive produce the Showtime series The United States of Tara which currently kicked off its second season.
