‘Arthur Christmas’ Movie Review

‘Arthur Christmas’ is the perfect movie to start off the coming of the Holiday season. Its story starts on the night of Christmas right at the North Pole where the youngest son of Santa searches for his father’s high tech gadget for one mission that needs to be urgently done.

The big Santa here is voiced by Jim Broadbent and his son Steve, is voiced by Hugh Laurie. The son is the one who is the leader of the operations and expects to be crowned as the brand new Santa. But just when a little girl was accidentally skipped, the spare of Steve, Arthur Christmas voiced by James McAvoy, is the one who fulfills the mission to get the last present delivered.

This Christmas film works around the genre that explains how Santa works on his magic. It’s usually probably about a more modified suit or maybe even see him wear a beret. It has often been seen that his sleigh was with rockets but it was a lot more interesting how the sleigh has been decommissioned this time around.

Director Sarah Smith was able to hold everything together even at her first time in the director’s chair. And considering this was set in 3D. The only thing that you would criticize about this movie is that there is nothing new to see. It may be that the Santa here is different but once the sleigh ride starts, most of the movie parts become way too repetitive.

This is one movie that features a supersonic sleigh that rides through the skies. But even with the right context given, the things just do not add up well. For example, the elves are supposed to be capable of doing all the work but with no reason at all, why should Santa deliver one of those Christmas gifts in a certain town just to move on to the next? There was also too much scenes of making it too apparent how they wanted to make it appear that Santa is spotted.

‘Arthur Christmas,’ in general is capable of bringing lessons to a family audience but when it comes to adventure, it somehow lacks on that aspect. In short, it will not turn out as memorable as you expect it to be. Parents can be able to sit through it as their children enjoy the animation. So it is really up to you whether you would want to see this film as a pre-Christmas treat to the kids.
