For every Drew Barrymore film, you can always expect to be saying ‘awww’ as you watch the entirety of it. This can certainly be like that but yet for some it is just another Barrymore film. Are you getting what we mean?
‘Going the Distance‘ is a romantic comedy film that focuses on a girl and a guy who tries their best to keep the fire of their love alive as they travel back and forth between LA and Chicago just to see each other. It is truly romantic but for the debut film of Nanette Burstein, it does not really deliver any sense of originality that would set it apart from other romantic flicks. It is a movie that you can predict what happens next which would be of course boring, especially for a diversified audience.
The good thing is that the comedic parts of the film would really make you chuckle every once in a while as a good consolation. Drew Barrymore and Justin Long somehow failed at showing depth in the characters they played with not so strong performances. We are thinking maybe Drew has gotten tired of almost the same kind of romantic films she has been doing through the years. Or maybe the script should be the one to blame. But surely there is sure fire chemistry between Barrymore and Long.
So if you want something new from a romantic flick, this may not interest you at all. But if you are a die hard fan of Drew, then ‘Going the Distance’ can still work for you.
