‘Happy Feet Two’ will let you see thousands of penguins dance once again in high precision that still gives the kicks but somehow lacks in detailed storytelling strategy.
It is hard for anyone to resist these penguins but this movie will surely make you want to try to resist them this time. Even if it features thousands of Antarctic types doing toe tapping towards the screen in front of you, it still does not portray a clear idea of what it wants to appear it does.
George Miller makes a comeback to direct and was also the co-writer of this sequel. But the clean original story line of a penguin that is born to dance which had it won an Oscar way back in 2006 certainly has not made it that big in this second movie.
Instead, it somehow de-focuses you from the dangerous narrative that makes the entire movie on the edge of its doom. It lets you concentrate instead on the penguins dancing without letting you realize that there is nothing solid that holds all the tiny bits and pieces of the plot together.
The staff of the film probably have sensed this problem early on that you can sense it in the way its mission statement was done: “Everything in this world, no matter how big, no matter how small, is connected in ways we never expect.”
Elijah Wood returns too to voice Mumble along with Robin Williams as Ramon. But the most inspired creation in the movie is Sven voiced by Hank Azaria. He is one self-help guru who believes it when he says, “If you want it, you must will it. If you will it, it will be yours.” But again, no matter how great the character was made, it lacked the right plot to have it set against with to make it remain consistently effective all towards the end.
Believe it or not, even the decision of having Matt Damon and Brad Pitt in its cast did not help at all. In general, ‘Happy Feet Two’ may not be the sequel that you have been expecting but it certainly has more things to offer like its diverse soundtrack music.
Admit it. It still is so much fun to see all those penguins dance and with the 3D look this time around, it becomes all the more impressive, visually, at least.
