‘Immortals’ Movie Review

‘Immortals’ is a movie that surely delivers great battle scenes that are always expected from any action epic work. But do not expect that the carnage level of it can be compared to that offered by ‘300’ and ‘Gladiator.’ For with this, there is a lot more.

Its director Tarsem Singh really has his way of making his audience feel uncomfortable when watching his work. You can expect a lot of that in this movie which made it obtain a hard R-rating which is a new censorship label. ‘Immortal’ is definitely filled with a lot of gruesome scenes. If you are a fan of ‘Gladiator’ featuring Russell Crowe, then you would be a fan of this one too. Scene spoilers like a soldier cutting a mother’s throat, or a monk cutting his own tongue, and the likes would surely accomplish the goal of the director to make you feel awkward.

With those being already horrible, then what more do you expect with it being in 3D? In its final scene battle, you would find internal organs flying up in the air – just about everywhere. And yes, they are in 3D!

With the overall expenditure of about $75 million for this movie, you would already think that the movie was made way too violent for an audience to still appreciate it enough. It has the capacity, to be honest, to turn off many from watching it and from making others to watch it. Its producer Mark Canton who was also the producer of ‘300’ said that they choose to not play it safe this time.

The movie on a general note can be defined as extremely graphic to the point that it can make you feel sick. If this is the type of filmmaking that you go after, then you would surely enjoy ‘Immortals.’ But just be warned that its level of violence is definitely absurd. The storyline is not that satisfying for one would obviously see that the entire team of the movie focused on rendering violent graphics and effects. In the end, it would make you realize that the costumes made for the gods seemed fitting for go-go dancers and then you would be led to asking yourself: which audience was this movie made for anyway?
