When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

A question you may ask yourself at the end of this very well produced3D-CGI animated (short)feature. Tim Burton, who is no stranger to somevery dark (and not just a little disturbing)films acts as executiveproducer, along with Russian/Kazakh film maker,Timur Bekmambetov (NightWatch,Day Watch)to bring this post apocalyptic tale of a world gonehorribly wrong, after humanity has fallen & the machines took over. Allthat remains is a collection of rag dolls, each with elements of thesoul of a scientist, who's inventions eventually destroyed the humanrace, via neo fascism (sound pretty bleak already?). One of the ragdolls is trying to find out just what happened to it's creator, and ifthere is any others of it's kind left. Shane Acker directs from hisstory (with a screenplay adapted by Pamela Puttler)about the search fortruth among some pretty ugly lies. The voice ensemble is headed up bythe likes of Christopher Plummer,Martin Landau,Elijah Wood,CrispinGlover,Jennifer Conneley & John C.Reilly. Despite the fact that this isan animated film, this is NOT a film for very young children, whichcontains some pretty nightmarish & intense moments that could scare theyoung 'uns under the age of seven (hence, the PG-13 rating).Personally,I found the film to be a wee bit too short, and does manageto leave a few ends undone…but is still worth seeking out by thosewho regard animation as an art form.

This is the worst movie I have seen since "I Know Who Killed Me" withLindsey Lohan.
After watching this movie I can assure you that nothing but frustrationand disappointment await you should you choose to go see this. Hey, TimBurton, I used to be a big fan of yours… did you even screen thismovie? I mean seriously, what the f%#k?
Without giving anything away, here is the story in a vague nutshell…Nine wakes up, he does stuff, his actions and decisions areirrelevant… and the movie ends. Oh wait… here comes a spoiler…
Spoiler alert! Spoiler alert! At the end of the movie…. it rains. Ithink a part of my soul died while watching this movie.

I seriously can't believe Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, two peopleI LOVE, signed on to produce this crap. Tim Burton is a brilliantdirector, but to be honest I've been losing interest in him for a whilesince his last few movies were either remakes or adaptations. He didproduce the brilliant "Nightmare Before Christmas", which is one I'vewatched multiple times, and directed movies like "Beetlejuice" and"Sleepy Hollow", which are awesome films. Bekmambetov directed 3 filmsthat I LOVE: Night Watch, Day Watch, and Wanted. I've only seen thosethree of his, but they prove he's an awesome director.
Those two people producing one of the many reasons I was excited to see9. So today I went to go see it at the theatre. I was so excited tofinally have seen it. I had waited 7 months for the movie to come out.
This movie is the first time I've walked out of a Tim Burton-relatedmovie and said "I enjoyed almost NONE of that". I felt heartbroken toeven have felt that way. I mean, with him and Bekmambetov at theproduction helm you'd have expected this movie to be a good watch.Right now I still can't get over how let down I was by this movie. Ihadn't even heard of the original short film before seeing it but now,I can successfully say that this movie should have remained a shortmovie. Hell, Neil Blomkamp made an AWESOME full length remake of Alivein Joburg entitled District 9, what was so hard to get right about 9???I really wanted to think this movie was awesome. I really did. But no,it failed on so many levels.
The plot was extremely confusing and disjointed. I had no idea what wasgoing on, let alone what it was about. Basically it's about a bunch ofrag doll robots trying to save the earth. Well, OK, that's what I gotfrom it. But the writing here is extremely poor. The whole film jumpsaround like a 6 year old with A.D.D. telling a story. There's this big, giant clanky monster robot that 9 awakens, causing destruction andstuff. That's the main villain. However, what else is wrong with thismovie is that EVERYTHING COMES OUT OF NOWHERE. There were too manymonster robots, most of which have no logical explanation behind them. They have 0 development whatsoever. I mean, that flying pterodactyllike monster just rips out of nowhere, we have no idea where it comesout of and Acker just expects us to know what it is. What was even moreretarded was that snake-like creature with the strobing eyes thathypnotize. I dare you to give that description to someone else out loudand expect them not to laugh. All of the 3 people I told about it burstout laughing. Oh and it wraps victims up and sews them inside it. I'M.NOT. KIDDING.
The twist in Act III is the most retarded aspect of the whole movie. Sobasically 9 goes back to the room he woke up in, finds this box with ahologram from the scientist in it for 9, and he tells him that the bigscary machine robot was designed to bring robot life to earth, but thenevil humans use it for war, and it was supposed to help protect theearth, but then the scientist gave his life to 9 so that it could helpprotect the world with it. And HE ONLY MENTIONS GIVING HIS LIFE TO 9.But what about the other robots? WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES TO THEM????????This is the perfect example of poor, rushed writing. There's only oneof the life taking device thingy that exists so how did the other 8 getlife given to them??????? The characters are not likable at all either. They risk their lives for no reason at all. The only good character is7. 6 annoyed me with his "GO BACK TO THE SOURCE!!!!!!" ramblings, 1 isan overpowering idiot, 2 we don't know ANYTHING about, 5 kept annoyingme with his "Are you sure…" or "Can I stay here instead…?"questions. And that ending? UGH. I'm glad I'm not the only one whothinks that the ending was a huge WTF moment.
There's nothing redeeming about this turd except for its beautifulanimation. Everything looks realistic and beautiful, I love the gloomyand depressing look of everything. However, beauty can't save a goodmovie.
While it's true that this movie is very pretty looking, pretty is aspretty does, and 9 does squat. I'm sure Burton fans will be flocking tothe theatre to see this movie without a doubt, in fact with his andBekmambetov's names being thrown around the promos, people will beflocking to the theatre to see this movie. I know I may be making a bigdeal out of nothing, but watching this movie made me realize how much Ihate movies with unlikeable characters, nonexistent plot and just purestyle over content. And this movie is one of those movies.

Greetings again from the darkness. Directed by Shane Acker withscreenplay by Pamela Pettler, the influence of producer Tim Burtoncannot be missed, with recollections of Edward Scissorhands,Beetlejuice and even Frankenweenie. And the ties to Wizard of Oz and2001 are inescapable.
The reason this one scores as high as it does is purely visual. Theanimation is spectacular and ground-breaking. Yes, it is pretty bleak, but these are post-apocalyptic times, remember! The details and textureof the visuals are extraordinary.
Sadly, I found the story flat out ridiculous and the charactersunderplayed. Christopher Plummer seems to be have found a second careervoicing evil guys … here playing the frightened leader #1. JenniferConnelly found a movie she couldn't screw up voicing the near superhero#7 (is it just me or does #7 look a bit heavy – surprised the skeletalConnelly agreed to play her). Elijah Wood voice the chosen one sent bythe originating scientist to save the world from his misused powerfulmachine monster.
Religious and evil government commentary abounds, and I found most ofit not up to par. Still the visuals are fascinating and I can't wait tosee where this animation heads in future, better films.
