For their honeymoon, newlyweds Cliff and Cydney head to the tropical islands of Hawaii. While journeying through the paradisaical countryside the couple encounters Kale and Cleo, two disgruntled hitchhikers and Nick and Gina, two wild but well-meaning spirits who help guide them through the lush jungles. The picturesque waterfalls and scenic mountainsides quickly give way to terror when Cliff and Cydney learn of a grisly murder that occurred nearby and realize that they're being followed by chance acquaintances that suspiciously fit the description of the killers.

An expert thriller about trust and the dangers of it. Crazy, twisty, gripping, and slam bang. A newly married couple go to Hawaii on theirhoneymoon and they meet a couple that seem well off… But when theydiscover a killer is loose, they soon begin to suspect who it is. Asthey become good friends with the couple, they are not sure what tobelieve anymore. Suspicions pile on and things seem to make sense…But absolutely nothing is what it seems… 1 of the trickiest filmsever, with a jaw dropping twist you'll never see coming. The acting ishugely impressive with, Steve Zahn, Milla Jovoich, Timothy Olyphant,Marley Shelton, etc. the thrills don't stop and nothing turns evenclose to how you feel they would. A true magic trick on the audience, atrue thriller that takes you on a wild ride. Highly original, andinsanely good.
A Perfect Getaway is an alternate movie to The Perfect Stranger. Sametwist.
Actually, the movie kinda gave you all the clues already, like whenGina and Cydney was chatting about Cydney's "ex-bf" and how Cliff gotgood reflexes for a screenwriter when Nick threw the axe (was it anaxe? don't remember) at him. Not to mention, Nick thought Cliff lookedfamiliar.
A Perfect Getaway was a clever, enjoyable and pretty suspenseful moviealthough I already guessed (guessed right) who the killers was. Somescenes are humorous – got the whole audience laughing. Very neat!
A PERFECT GETAWAY (2009) *** Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant, MillaJovovich, Kiele Sanchez, Marley Shelton, Chris Hemsworth. Decentthriller with newlyweds Zahn & Jovovich in high danger on theirhoneymoon in Hawaii where they learn a murdering couple are on theloose and perhaps closer than they think after encountering twodistinctly off-beat, and vaguely threatening, other couples en route totheir hike in the island wilds. Written and directed with clever(perhaps too clever for its own good) élan by David Twohy, thetwisty-turny plottings are knotty enough for the average viewer, butfor those in the know by act two you'll figure out theturn-of-the-screw headings. Well-acted by the young ensemble, the filmworks on its own merits of a crackerjack popcorn suspenser.
Director David Twohy, who also wrote the screenplay, has writingcredits of considerable distinction including hits such as Pitch Black,GI Jane and The Fugitive. Here he delivers a fast paced, neatlyconceived story which would have looked good on paper and works well onthe screen. A bit of a genre hybrid it plays to the slasher/ horror/thriller markets without ever particularly committing to any of them.
The cinematography, filmed on location is Hawaii is simply stunning.Helipcopter shots provide a perfect excuse for those swooping panoramaswhich thrill, excite and delight in equal measure. The story unfoldsaround three couples and a mysterious murderous duo stalking theIsland. A 97 minute running time is commendably tight, but thecharacters are offered as little more than stereotypes which devaluesaudience sympathies. There is a twist, which is effective, but genreaficionados will anticipate it because the options are so limited.
Twohy spends so much time planning for the "reveal" that when it comeswe have little time to get alongside the real characters so that thelast 20 minutes or so, whilst quite exciting, is also curiouslyuninvolving and soulless.Ironically, whilst he is happy to offer us thestaple female nudity, the feisty female roles offer nothing in the wayof damsels in distress.
So, a job well done within its own terms of reference, but nothing outof the ordinary, and, murders aside, a good advert for Hawaii'sspectacular coastline.
"A Perfect Getaway" is a movie that not only disappointed me with theentertainment they could have provided, but their was just overall SOmuch more they could have done to make it better. Anyways before I gointo full detail let me say this, if you go to see this movie don't goin with high expectations. Okay well as most of you know it is aboutthis couple(Steve Z. and Mila J.) who, while honeymooning in Hawaiiencounter two other couples who they suspect of being responsible for amurder that happened near where they're at. Doesn't sound to ENTIRLEYoriginal does it? Though one must admit at least it's not a slashermovie, so for that props to A Perfect Getaway. However although itseems original, it really isn't. Okay note I didn't go in to this moviewith the lowest of expectations, but instead good. The movie seemedlike the kind of thriller, not horror, movie I might would enjoy.Unfortunately as much as "A Perfect Getaway" wanted to be that cool, scary, entertaining, thrilling, and suspenseful thriller to keep youconstantly guessing, it really isn't. About the film, although the maincouple (Mila & Steve) were original and well conceived, they reallyjust arn't THAT likable. I mean I didn't really care about them, butwas instead more interested in the other couple (played greatly byTimothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez), than the main. I mean the maincouple is just so faceless and so uninteresting. Next it tried way tohard to try and provide us with enough stuff keep us watching, andhonestly I just got so fed up with it, that I wasn't to in to themovie. Plus it gets boring. Also although Steve Zahn is a good actor hegives a really bad performance, and he's just so annoying, so faceless,so unoriginal, that I was hoping he would die in the most painful wayimaginable! Also was the third couple (played very dryly by ChrisHemsworth and Marley Shelton) really entirely necessary? I mean nobodyreally liked them, or cared about them, and even the film hated themfor they just disappear and re-appear only to be captured and neverseen or heard of again. I mean yes I was glad they did disappear causeI hated them, but still give us a reason to want to see them, or atleast make a better effort. Next was the so called twist, I didn't mindthat Mila and Steve's character were the bad guys, it just it was VERYpredictable. For example the other two couples were given many reasonsas to who may be the killers, so much so that it's like if Mila andSteve wern't the killers but instead the other couples nobody wouldreally be like "Oh my gosh, I never saw that coming!" So in result ofthis it was no shock at all that Mila and Steve were the killers. PlusI never bought Steve Zahn being a killer for one minute. Last is justoverall the film is just really annoying at times, and kind of boring, and dull. However I though it was very well directed, and I liked someof the characters. Plus I really like the ending and I liked how youtook a liking to Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez's characters.Overall "A Perfect Getaway" is really for those who don't like scarymovies, if you're a fan of horror/thrillers like me than you would bebetter off skipping "A Perfect Getaway" because as much as it wants tobe something special, it just isn't.
