I don't know who was excited to see this film besides my self. LikeNational Treasure, I thought the Da Vinci Code was ridiculous fun. Notas good as National Treasure of course. But three years later comesAngels & Demons, a clever, fast paced entertaining summer film that isvery impressive. It doesn't disappoint. Tom Hanks returns as HarvardSymbologist Robert Langdon. The Vatican calls his help to solve amystery. Anti-matter has been stolen from C.E.R.N. and is hiddensomewhere in Vatican city. THe Pope has just died and the election hasjust started. Here's another problem… four of the main cardinals havebeen kidnapped and are to be killed at every hour by the Illuminati.Robert teams up with Vittoria Vetra to find the anti-matter. It willexplode at midnight. They must save the cardinals and save the smallestcity in the world. Angels & Demons is incredibly entertaining. It is anincredibly long film that never lets up for a minute. It tops The DaVinci Code in every single way.

If the Joker form the Dark Knight see Angels and Demons, he may pat onhis hips saying, "why so serious?" Actually all the commentors werecomplaining about the cast, the stiffy portrait of several centercharacters and the incomplete story that is cut from the novel…But mypoint is, the movie got its message perfectly delivered, so why soserious?

First off, the movie is quite a sightseeing trip, reflecting lastyear's In Bruges. Vatican is absolutely a must-go on all the tourists'list! That is what I told myself after this entertaining viewing.Despite the fact that the movie was portraying Catholics in a negativeway in a absolutely negative context, the movie was still allowed to beshot in Vatican. How ironic! Anyway, I quite enjoyed the effects theyput in this one, much more than I did in the first one. Davinci Codewas almost entirely handicapped compared to Angels and Demons, in termsof technical sophistication, cinematographic, plot development and mostimportantly, pacing. In fact, the pacing alone is worth seeing forthose who like thrillers. Robert Langdon played by Tom Hanks and thereligious fanatic Ewan Mcgregor were fun, or at least funny.

However, under its sophisticated skin, Angels and Demons failed to be abetter mystery thriller. The more obvious reason being the plotdevelopment. Wait, did I say it's better than 1st one, sure. But it'sstill weak. The ultimate bad guy in the movie could be figured outalmost instantly in the branding iron scene with Mcgregor, not tomention his personal show thereafter. The movie is too dark to beIndianna Jones while too professional in religious history to beNational Treasure, yet it didn't have much to offer a really uniquestyle. That's why it ended the same pale way like its predecessor. Theless obvious reason is different. To make a clarification, I am not aCatholic, but a believer in Jesus. So this movie for me, should beoffering some really interesting(or meaningful) perspective to offsetits apparent lack in goodwill. Unfortunately, I didn't find much.Simply stating, the movie sells its plot and message in a outright waythat is considered outrageous by many, and that's weighted too much tobore all the audiences(presumably all non-Catholics). The problem isit's as superficial as it's based on the writer's historicalknowledge(fantasy?), which is something you can't sell twice so easily. The climax reminded me of L.A. Confidential, however with all the flatroles and outright anti-Catholic propaganda, it got tired andtasteless. The worst thing about such a novel-adapted movie is that allthe retarded assumptions look more retarded live, as if Catholics isthe only religion the world knows, and the election of a new pope ishotter than US presidential trial, which gives Vatican a Hollowan. It'sjust too clichéd to appreciate. "Can you really give me something moredetailed and solid so maybe I can scientifically prove this religiousgroup's hyper-critic nature? That might be fun… " The joker raised hisright hand……The teacher didn't pick him. Sadly, the Joker had tomake a list of messages the movie sells by himself. So: 1, Catholics(orall Christians) have a defending nature that protects all the dirtylittle secrets here and there, which is unforgivable for people whoclaim to be holy. 2, Since a pope unmanned all the scriptures somehundreds years ago for the sake of mind purity, this religion'steaching should be inhuman at all. 3, If you are a charity group aswell as a bank, you are naturally a hypocrite. 4, The highest ranks ofCatholics are a mess, since they can't overcome theirsuperstitious/exaggerating nature that is dwelled in their faith anddirectly produced their hypocrisies and murders and all theworse-than-ordinary sins. Ah, please remember they did this one inspecial favor to the writer and director of "Angels and Demons" themovie. See you next time.

OK, if anyone tells you he hates/loves this movie by its messages, donotfight him. Just say you respect any given religion or philosophy, and the problem should be solved. Good luck!

Angels & Demons is by far the best book by Dan Brown. It has a plot andpace. I'm afraid i can't say the same about the film. The film is shotin beautiful style capturing all of the Vatican & Rome. And Tom Hanks &Ewan McGregor do justice to their characters. But thats about it. thefilm opens well and builds up really good till it becomes a littlepredictable. Other characters like Ms Vetra are unconvincing to say theleast. The movie lacks the pace of the book and falls apart in places. When you see Ron Howard making films like Frost/Nixon, you go withcertain expectations for a film like this. It doesn't do justice to thedirector or the book. But a decent watch, nothing to carry home though.

I thought Angels and Demons was a very entertaining movie. I woulddefinitely choose Angels and Demons above the Da Vinci Code, but that'spersonal because I simply like the story better. I love how the storytakes you though Rome and an ancient path.

The movie was shot beautifully. With lots of great images, I found itthrilling though I already read the book before so I knew the outcome.

About that, I was disappointed with a few cutbacks of characters who Iloved in the book – but for the movies sake: it didn't really matter!Though the plot has changed a bit, there's been some juggling withcharacters and some plot lines have been cut out – the movie doescatches the books vibe and makes a wonderful, easy in following, story.

And definitely, you can doubt the camerlengo's plan but you need toreconsider that the camerlengo didn't thought of an outcome of hisplan: he thought he was doing a good thing – despite the cruelty ofwhich he was aware of. The outcome of everything could've different forhis sake, his only goal was to make the catholicism stronger.

This movie I can definitely recommend watching, if only for theexciting vibe the movie is drenched in – after all, the vatican is kindof fascinating and the movie gives you images to places you'll neverbe. (Whether the images are correct or made up by the art department -considering they were not allowed filming in the vatican itself, obviously) And when you haven't read the book you'll definitely findthe outcome surprising and afterwards it'll make you feel blown away!

Langdon is back and this time he's in Vatican, where a secret society, the Illuminatti, are threatening the cardinals and the city. To bebrief, Angels and Deamons is better than The DaVinci Code mainlybecause it's more fast-paced, it's full of disturbing facts and there'smore action.

The cast isn't anything special, the only two actors who stand out areEwan McGregor and Tom Hanks, who improved his acting a tad sinceDaVinci. Ayelet Zurer, who plays Vittoria Vetra, is on the blacklist:her acting is nothing spectacular and her character is useless, mainlybecause she contributes little to the actual plot.

The movie does have its share of weird moments, corny lines and so on,but it's entertaining, a must see for fans of The DaVinci Code.

    Final Score: 3.5/5 or 7/10

This is one of the most boring films I have watched in ages. It wasdragged out to the point where I almost fell asleep! Tom Hanks and EwanMcGregor acted well but the plot was terrible. As someone elsecommented, it kept hopping from one thing to the other and never reallyexplained properly why certain things were happening. The last half anhour was most probably the worst. So stupid and pointless. I like theway that the police kept leaving Tom Hanks and his co-partner alone!Like that would happen? Several scenes are left with them and thebaddie alone – that just wouldn't happen. Well, maybe once but several- naaah! I kept shaking my head thinking, this is ridiculous. I likefantasy in a movie, as do most people, but when the film is trying tobe serious, then no. What a waste of a couple of hours – wish I'd reada book! lol.

  7. rohit shetty Says:

firstly,i would like to say that the performance by tom hanks in thisfilm is quite ordinary,as we all know what he capable of(see cast away).the film from start to end is quite unbelievable and that tooliterally.its full of coincidences it would become difficult to accepteven for an ordinary sane person.

its funny that they have shown that saving the vatican depends entirelyupon mr.tom hanks.and that too he is like almost on his own wid a few (4-7 max)police officers wid him. could anyone believe that onlymr.langdon in the entire world is capable of saving the vatican andshockingly he is it seems. and the things that mr.langdon speaksthrough-out is so "out of this world" that i thought that even peoplefrom vatican wont understand any. i got fed-up of the fim after anhour.

the film is quite amusing in the sense that none of the charactersactually care what happens to vatican except for tom(at least it seemsthat way).they r in no hurry to do anything. and that too after gettinga threat that the vatican will be blown within next 24 hours.its OK towatch for any tom hanks fan(one who is ready to accept that mr.tomhanks is a old super-hero )

This movie flows nicely and has a good rhythm to it. Which makes itslightly better than the "Da Vinci Code", if you like your movies to besimple and/or straightforward. Whereas Da Vinci was more complex andtherefor not entirely satisfying for the mainstream audience it wastargeting, this one knows exactly what it wants.

I haven't read the books, the movies are based on, but as it appearsthe movies took some liberties. Angels and Demons as a book is a"prequel" to the Da Vinci Code, but here it is played out as a (sortof) Sequel. Tom Hanks reprises his role and the hunt begins early on.The pace picks on and it never really slows down, which is good, because then you would start thinking and you would see many flaws …As it is, the movie is solid in what it tries to achieve.
