Beginning from Mongolia down to the busy streets of Tokyo to the Namibian desert and finally to San Francisco, director Thomas Balmes provides a glimpse on the development of little Bayar, Mari, Ponijao, and Hattie. Viewers would observe these kids grow physically right in front of their eyes, develop one-of-a-kind personalities, and blend in with their individual cultures. This movie shows the development of four babies from birth to about oneyear old. They are from extreme different cultures – Namibia, Mongolia,Japan and the United States. the movie is well-crafted – thephotography and musical score is very good. There is no narrative. Themovie shows babies as they explore, wonder and learn and I found iteasy to create my own narrative as I did the same while watching them.
