Chaos Theory (2007)
This man will bring order to the universe...or not.

At his daughter's wedding, time-management specialist Frank Allen corners the reluctant groom and tells him a long story: about the night his wife chose him, and then, about eight years later, when a missed ferry, a corporate groupie, a panicked expectant mother, and a medical test brought Frank's marriage to a crisis. In the midst of the crisis were Frank, his wife Susan, their daughter Emily, and Frank's best friend, the feckless Buddy. Things come to a head at a lake when Frank, armed with a shotgun, decides to cross something permanently from one of his time-management lists. Is there ever room for whim and chaos?

You can't wrong with this movie. It is a crowd pleaser and as part of acertain crowd, I was as well.

The film follows the old time comedies style, from Frank Capra tillCharles Crichton, giving us slight deja-vu moments of "I've seen itbefore" without making itself boring or repetitive. And perhaps yes, weall did, or still do in some ways. And that's the good thing about thefilm. Although it has an universal theme the film never tries to bepretentious and fool us with surprise endings. We are dealing with a"safe-net" act, where we feel as rookie-acrobats guided by greatinstructors who really wants us to become part of the great show oflife.

Being politically correct never felt closer to chaos in the last 10years, I would say. And complete chaos might bring one you down toEarth with a satisfactory thought of being almost in paradise.

A must see , hear and laugh.

    8.5 out of 10.

This is 2008 and we start to see crisis everywhere. Economic crisis inUS, food crisis all over the world affecting badly the third worldcountries, earth quake in China and the cyclone floods in Myanmar.

Chaos theory is a theory about highly unstable, dynamically changingcomplex systems. It says many of such complex random motions may havesome identifiable patterns of behavior though they appear to be random. One real time example about this is the 'weather'. It appears randomlychanging. But it is not. Lot of other initial factors those might haveoccurred quite a long time back(say 100 years) do affect the currentweather. This is what I could understand from the detailed wikipediaarticle.

The movie is about a normal 9 – 5 office going family man(Ryan Renolds)who's life suddenly takes into wild turns and become chaotic. Thougheverything looked bad and led to a dead-end, he finds somelight(initiator) and brings back his life and his town to someliveliness. The story is just that. But the meanings it convey is abouttaking life at odd times. The voice overs of Danny Devito were good. Healso acted in this movie but I did not see his name in the star castlist. Ryan does fit perfectly into his role. And other characters too.The romance between Ryan and the shop counter girl(Emily) was indeed alovable one. This movie also reveals me that lower and lower-middleclass people's lives are same everywhere. No matter the country it is.It could be the richest America or Britain or any. Doesn't matter.

This movie is neither a tear-jerker nor a belly-aching comedy. Its adrama. If you like to see how people want to to go on with positivethings with life then watch it.

I enjoyed watching the movie thoroughly throughout and also must admitthat I loved the soundtrack so much that I keep playing the song"Tonight & forever" and "Golden Days" over and over again. The movie islighthearted with a treat of love and forgiveness for the chaotic heartand unravels the TRUTH beyond the master of his UNIVERSE…. Love seemsto be the only answer and conquers everything. So if you are worriedabout YOUR or HER past lives don't look back. Stand tall and walk aheadthe road that lies ahead. The movie also tries to unveils afather-daughter relationship which is not just based on genes but love.Relationship is not based on blood But LOVE. I find the movie simpleand sweet and 2 thumbs up for Ryan Reynolds.

Chaos Theory… Interesting title, attractive cover, interestingstoryline. Seems OK, but isn't this like 'one of those many movies'.That was my first feeling.

So, at first, this film didn't seem to be a lot to me. But I startedwatching it and first of all, the title fits the film so well. I reallygot into the story and the chaos in my head, as following thecomplicated and frustrating storyline, got so big, I kind of freakedout and was like who cares?! Forget about it! Start clean! Just like…

The actors, they totally fit their roles in the film. They are doing agreat job together with the films perfect blend of a 'trying to beserious' storyline, humor, and…

    CHAOS!

great movie. although a tad melancholy.

a section of quotes from the boat scene i feel should be added… sofunny!

Frank: "oh, that went all the way through." (as he's looking down atthe hole he accidentally just shot through the bottom of the boat.)

Buddy: "There, go ahead, commit suicide now." (after wrestling therifle away from Frank and throwing it into the lake.)

Frank: "Suicide? You think I'm trying to commit suicide?"

    Buddy: "Mmmm..yeah."

Frank: "You impossibly stupid man. Philandering, dumb… murder! MurderI'm trying to commit murder! You idiot!"

Chaos Theory is a well-acted comedy that delivers laughs a the rightmoments while weaving an endearing tale. It never achieves greatness, but it is enjoyable throughout.

Frank Allen (Ryan Reynolds) is a professional speaker who lectures ontime management, and his life is perfectly ordered and scheduled, downto the minute. When his wife (Emily Mortimer) sets his clock forward 10minutes as a joke, his day is thrown off. When he ends up late for anout-of-town lecture, things go awry. A couple of miscommunicationsleads his wife to question his fidelity, and he ends up making adiscovery that causes him to have his own doubts about his family life.Deciding that his strictly ordered life has done him little good, hebegins to make multiple choice index cards, choosing one at random anddoing what is written on the card.

Reynolds is a very under-appreciated talent, and his work in this filmis spot-on. Stuart Townsend gives a strong performance as Frank's bestfriend, and Matreya Fedor has some great moments as Frank's 7-year olddaughter. Sarah Chalke shows up briefly in an interesting role, but sheisn't given that much to work with.

The movie is story is well-structured and not entirely predictable, andthe pacing and timing are great. The flaw of the film, though, is thethird act, which was a little over-the-top for my taste.

But it is a smart and pleasant film overall, perfect for a rental.

When I first came across this movie, I was expecting some a sort ofpersonal epiphany that drives the main character to some higher stateof being. Essentially a rise-to-nirvana style film. Instead I foundsomething much more appealing and deeply human in this film. There's nobad guy, just a family and a friend who's lives are marked with ups anddowns.

Without giving anything away, the movie is about love, but not infinding or keeping it. What starts as a misunderstanding betweenhusband and wife develops quickly into a very intense situation. On adeeper level, the plot raises questions about how simply fate (order)and chance (chaos) bring together and break apart two people. Evenfurther, in the long-run, which force wins out? destiny orcircumstance?

This movie is a very pleasant departure from Hollywood and somethingwell worth checking into.
