A number of fighters are invited to DOA, an invitational martial arts contest. They travel to the tournament island by plane, until they have to jump out mid-flight with parachutes, and then have until sundown to reach the main island to be entered into the tournament. Fighters are then pooled against one another in a knock-out style tournament, with the loser of a battle sent home, and the winner progressing to the subsequent round. The plot revolves around four female fighters who begin as rivals, but subsequently find themselves teaming up against another force.

Dead Or Alive is one of those films in which you would watch it if youwere a big fan of the video games or at least heard of them. I, being abig fan of the video games, thought it wasn't as disappointing to thevideo game series as I thought it was going to be and it really in theend was a very great action movie. Although it was very mediocre attimes, such as the comedy was low and unfunny, the fighting was intenseand they were able to create really nice action sequences without anyblood. Plenty of things were impossible for the characters in this filmto do if these characters were actual people and not somehowgenetically enhanced before they went to this island, but still, it's amovie, and a very fun and entertaining one at that. This film basicallyjust has more revolvement around the women of the DOA tournament thanany of the other players which was sort of taking a big risk, and Ithink they did that just because they thought a lot of guys would seethis. Another thing was that they left out the awesome character ofHitomi. Well, this is actually an extremely pleasing fighting film ifyou enter with the right expectations and it has a few big problems,but I'm sure anyone who makes a movie based on a video game can not geteverything 100% accurate and overall this film was very well puttogether. I enjoyed it a lot…
first of all i would like to say this movie sucks 100 balls
warning this may spoil a huge disappointment the first problem withthis movie is none of the fights were even close to believable, likethe fight on the boat which people just leap of the boat when in reallife they would have all had guns. the fight between between Tina andher dad he did't care at all that he lost and it seemed like he wasthere just to look silly . the villain was a joke who just stole otherpeople's fighting skills in mortal kombat except on a lame way thoughstupid pair of sunglasses. the romantic scenes were atrociously cornylime something out of a third rate episode of Lizzie Maguire is aninsult to any adult watching. the end part were the the leap off the abuilding in to water was pathetic when they landed they when't hurt oreven wet , at he end they show a bunch of clips from the movie justfrikken watched,what do they think i forgotten everything about themovie already ? bottom this movie is frikken pathetic
You'll probably love this film…If you're a 9 year old kid droolingover Jaime Pressly in a bikini that is. This film has got to be thestupidest action movie ever. I mean that's saying a lot because I'veseen almost all of Seagal's straight-to-video movies and at least theguys there had the decency to respect the law of Physics but this one,they just trashed Newton and went crazy with the ridiculous fightscenes and all that comes along with it. I mean, jumping off a cliffwhich is higher than the Empire State building and surviving the fallin the deep waters below, I'm no scientist but I think it is consideredfatal if you jump that high in that altitude, its like hitting solidground.
All lead actresses were bland, hollow and annoying. The only good thingabout them is that volleyball scene and that's that. Yes they're prettybut its sad to say their assets were wasted bigtime on this one. I'mtalking about physical assets. If you're talking about acting skills,it is zilch.
I haven't really "Followed" the game saga, but from my experience, thismovie did a great homage to the games: Camera angles, ring-outs,Volley, action and as well as the game (sorry I'm a guy and I just haveto say this) all the girls are smoking hot. Good actors and actress (Iliked Aoki better in Sin City, but can't really complain) Well apartfrom that, I'm impressed by the fight scenes. Most of them are reallywell choreographed. Ayane was the only character that didn't reallyconvince me.. Wasn't she 15 or such?? In the movie they used a mucholder actress (you can tell by the looks) and she wasn't exactly a goodactress either. Character didn't work for me. And well, I'm not a moviecritic but I enjoy movies with a good plot. This one doesn't have one,and no movie can be enjoyable enough without a good plot (no, not evena D.O.A movie) Is it a good movie? No. Not at all, but battle scenesare excellent and made it worth watching. I'd recommend this for anyguy between 20 and 30 or something like that (I'm 27)for a "guiltypleasure" with your hormones. If you're a girl or a guy not betweenthat age rage, it doesn't worth it. Judging the actress and the fightscenes ,5 stars.
