Everyone's a critic, but I can't help but notice that critical reviewsand forums on sites of all kind online focus on roughly what theacademy might think of a movie. I rated this movie so high not becauseI think of it as Oscar material, but because it was enjoyable to watchand a great ride. I went in wanting to see some action, and that'sexactly what it delivered. If you enjoyed anything else that PierreMorel has been credited with or worked on, you'll enjoy this movie.
Fast paced and action packed all the way through, this was definitely agood action movie. Not too heavy on character development, no longstretches of dialogue, with just pinches of romantic drama and comedicmale bonding for breaks. Two main characters are an odd couple: ahardened special agent and the personal aide to a delegate who wants toget his feet wet. The meat of the movie consists of hardcore, intenseshoot outs with Special Agent Charlie Wax (John Travolta) swiftly andefficiently killing his way through a drug ring with James Reece(Jonathan Rhys Meyers) following along awe-stricken, trying not to getshot. As the movie progresses we see the diplomatic Reece get put intodesperately violent situations which and as he learns to cope we learnthe purpose for and the greater story around what Wax has actually beensent there to accomplish. It raps up nicely.
I went out to go see a an action movie and I got a little bit of astory, great action sequences, and a couple of good laughs. Good stuff.

It’s hard to know exactly what to think of Luc Besson’s careerpost-Léon: as a writer/producer, he’s responsible for dumb but funactioners like Taxi (the French original, not the US remake) and TheTransporter; as a director, he has come up with the pretentious Joan ofArc and the atrocious Arthur franchise (which is supposed to be hislast directorial project). Since From Paris with Love falls in thefirst category, it was easy to expect something decent. Instead, we geta by-numbers, smug, overblown film whose only merit is leaving thetitular city relatively intact come the closing credits (remember thenanomites in G.I. Joe?).
In short, From Paris with Love should appeal to action-junkies, butwears pretty thin quite fast. Also, why bother to put the city’s namein the title when, breakfast on the Eiffel Tower aside, Charlie Wax’sviolent odyssey could easily have taken place anywhere else? So muchfor the love…

Just saw this at a special screening and I was surprised. I thoughtthis would be just like any other movie that Luc Besson wrote, directedor produced: La Femme Nikita, Leon: The Professional, Unleashed, TheTransporter movies, etc; They consist of huge action pieces, greatcomedy with enjoyable characters but formulaic story lines. 'From ParisWith Love' has all these elements but added with certain surprises, notas in great twists, but things don't turn out the way you would expectin a Luc Besson movie, and because of this, and because it wasenjoyable, I give it 3 out of 4 stars.
The first half starts out the same way hundred of other movies do, butthe 2nd half goes in a different direction which we've also seen beforebut it doesn't go toward the way we think it would. Anyway, I don'twant to give anything else away so I'll just say go and see it…in thevery least you'll have a great time !!!
P.S. I enjoy Luc Besson movie's cause they are good, not great, actionmovies
