Yeah, it wasn't as good as Seven, or Agent X, but it was still good.I've always liked serial killer movies, and this had some really goodscenes and kills and characters and twists. Zhiyi, I think was theChinese girls name, was EXCELLENT. Her character really got under myskin, great work. Dennis Quaid was convincing without being too cliché,just a little. The ending was almost predictable, but only because ofgood foreshadowing…the clues were there if you watched for them Ithink it was a pretty intelligent flick, with people being expected tofigure things out for themselves, I think some of the low ratingsprobably come from people who need lots of "flashback" scenes tounderstand the plot of a movie. A solid, entertaining, gotta recommendit to your friends movie, even if we won't be talking about it in tenyears.

Horsemen is everything that I hate about movies. It is ruined by poorimaginations. It actually has potential, it has a good plot, and hascast that draws you into it. But the lack of intelligence in this movieis befuddling. The script is written to (what it seems) be able to let2 year old understand what is going on. Some of the most obvious thingsare said numerous times and it becomes repetitive and annoying.

Next, some may disagree, but I liked what the plot had going. Althoughit seems like a copy cat of many other movies, I was totally enticedfrom the get go, starting with Denis Quaid(who plays Detective AidanBreslin), who is called to the crime scene where he finds a bag ofteeth and the message "COME AND SEE" written on 4 trees surrounding. You are automatically thrown into mystery and suspense with the firstbody being discovered. As the movie progresses, you become more andmore confused by the plot. Numerous story lines emerge, and how it allties together is so poorly executed, I was angered. The writers shouldbe ashamed! In the end, we discover the white horse (final horsemen, ring leader, etc) is (who knew?!? oh wait..I did!) Quaid's son. Thequiet, angry teen who is obviously really upset by his dad's ignorance. Not only was the twist so predictable, the boy doesn't even fulfillwhat he wanted to. He is saved by, of course, Quaid (dad) in anot-so-emotional scene where his dad yet again promises to be there forhim in the future. Look what it took to make him notice! But really, dothe writers expect us to believe that his son was involved in this, murdered numerous people, and his dad is telling him everything will beOK? And the kid just agrees to it. "Yeah dad, I believe you this time.I just killed a bunch of people and am possibly insane, but hey- I'lltake you up on that offer for that weekly visit to eat! How about it?"So that's basically the conclusion. And it leaves you feeling like thewriters questioned your intelligence and angered that you wasted yourtime on this terrible film.

This film was an insult to the intelligence of the viewers.

The plot is that this police department has an investigator who is anexpert of Teeth. So he's called out on a case where a bunch of teethare left on a silver platter. Soon we are enmeshed in a movie where abunch of creepy kids are involved in a plot to bring about the"Apocolypse" by mangling the scripture.

Okay, here's the plot twist. Ziyi Zhang (who is a 30 year old playing ateen…) gives herself up in the murder of her adoptive mother. Now,oddly, this police department apparently has a dental expert, butdoesn't have the computer experts or psychological experts to pick thisgirl's life apart, figure out who her associates are, including the sonof the lead detective.

Now, I'm sorry, if you are a detective, you have to be pretty poor atyour job to not realize that your kid is seriously messed up. Yet hehasn't been in the kid's room in three years? Come on. No cop in theworld is that dense… You just don't understand police mentality.Policemen tend to be overly suspicious of everyone they encounter. That's the point.

I always feel a bit bad when i see a movie like this one that has good, smart, thought-provoking plot and there's every reason that it shouldevolve in an amazing movie but it just doesn't because of the poorexecution and flawed acting. That literally and most definitely appliesto 'Horsemen'. It's still far from being awful though, i still say it'sworth watching but it held potential to become an inspiring classic andin the end it fell short by a country mile. Casting is also unpleasingfor me, some familiar names and faces sure but their acting is flawedin this movie and others who aren't familiar did lousy job… But thismovie's problems don't start and end with pretty poor and flawedacting, if only that was the case then it would be great, many thingsare ruined in poor directing of the movie. That promising plot ispretty much ruined in the second half as the story takes sloppy turnsand twists that seemed very unrealistic and lame.

This movie reminded me very much of one of the best investigativethrillers ever made 'Se7en', that was only at start though with all thesignificant murders and dark atmosphere. Don't think that you will lovethis film as much (and if) you loved 'Se7en' though, just picture this:2 cars are traveling on the same piece of road at the same speed, after25 minutes first car speeds up and stays on the same road and thesecond car speeds up even more but it turns to different direction on avery bumpy road, the first car is 'Se7en' and the second is 'Horsemen'.

  5. PrairieCal Says:

Why do they make crap like this? And why do credible actors like DennisQuaid lower themselves to appear in such garbage? Someone needs toinform the cocaine befuddled writers in Hollywood that grizzly, disgusting blood and gore do not make suspense. The only suspensefulthing about this movie was wondering how much longer it could go on,how much more hideous torture we would be subjected to, and when thetotally predictable ending would finally arrive. Suspense movies thesedays seem to get progressively worse. This film had no one to identifywith and no one to care about. My first reaction was to shut it offhalf way through. I wish I had.

  6. MoronUnited Says:

Considering there were very few interesting movies at the video storelast night, I decided to go with one that I hadn't heard about,Horsemen A Dennis Quaid film that flew under the radar? Well that seemsto be the case considering it had an incredibly small theatricalrelease and now it appears Lionsgate is just dumping hordes of themovies at video stores in hopes of salvaging the production costs. So Iget home and boot up the DVD and begin only to find something sohorrific that I almost broke the DVD right then and there. It's aMichael Bay production. Dammit.

I am being honest here when I say that I gave the movie a chance. Ididn't automatically assume it would be crap even though it was morethan likely, but instead went into it hoping for the best. The moviestars an aging Dennis Quaid who is an Indianapolis homicide detectivewho falls into a brutal case involving many different homicides alllinked by the words "Come and See" written all over the wallssurrounding the bodies. Ah, but this is not all as Dennis Quaid is alsohaving problems with his children after a recent family tragedy What ashockingly original twist in a shockingly original plot! Gag me. As aDennis Quaid fan, it pains me to see him in such an awful role. Thescript he is given is so clichéd and uninteresting that it isunbelievable this ever made it to production.

Even though Michael Bay only produced Horsemen, his trademark screw-upscan be found slapped across every square inch of the film. The majorproblem Michael Bay films always has are human characters and emotions. The humans always have the depth and charisma of pieces of cardboardand always act like robots striving for emotional moments instead ofreal people acting, well, in a real fashion. It's all so fake andridiculous that it's hard to take anything seriously, this in additionto how the script must have been written by a brain-dead squirrel. Butmy favorite aspect is the editing, which is simply astounding. Thereare montage sequences that utilize fading to black in every sequence, and almost all of the other scenes fade to black as well. If they weregoing for a dramatic and edgy feel, it failed miserably since all itleads to is a headache.

Oh wait, I lied. My favorite part of the film is not the brilliantediting techniques, oh no, it's the incredible plot twists that Ihinted at before. There were multiple times in the movie where Iliterally yelled "PLOT TWIST!" at the screen hoping that if my voicewas loud enough, it could fly across the country and kick Michael Bayin the ass. Seriously, the twists were so ridiculous and uninterestingthat none of them held and tension or were effective in any way. Theending is about as satisfying as sucking liquid feces through a straw, but I won't spoil it since I'll let viewers take it all in forthemselves.

After the film was over, the person I watched the movie with turned tome and stated that it was truly the absolute worst movie he had everseen in his life. This is the same person I watched Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen with, mind you. Horsemen may not be worse thanTransformers 2, but it really is a black hole of entertainment. It'sabout as much fun to watch as it is to have your poopchute Super-gluedshut, and I would be hard pressed to make anybody suffer through thiswaste of time, let alone have to pay to see it. Michael Bay, can youplease start using toilet paper instead of wiping your ass with filmreels? It's expensive and it makes humanity cry.

I'm glad I didn't pay theater prices to see this flick. It has aninteresting premise, a moderate amount of shock and blood, but fails towrap up with a really good explanation of what/who/why was themotivation behind the killings. As a police detective, Quaid comes offstrong and believable, but his role as a father is confusing, seeminglyopting to drop twenty dollar bills on the counter in place ofadequately caring for two children. The loss of a wife was notoverplayed, but lacked enough details to understand his remorse for herloss. I was also confused by non-identifiable skylines and the presenceof the Canadian flag, and wasn't sure where this detective was reallyemployed. Oh, well, they all can't be winners. Better luck next time,Dennis.

  8. Michael O'Keefe Says:

Jonas Akerlun directs a quality actor, Dennis Quaid, in this tersecrime drama. Quaid plays Aidan Breslin, a widowed detective trying toraise two sons, but his job seems to interrupt any personal time. Thetroubled cop still grieving over his wife's untimely death ends upinvestigating a series of murders that seems to be based on chapter 6of Revelations in The New Testament; that prophecy concerns the FourHorsemen of the Apocalypse. There is strong hints there is a connectionbetween Breslin and the suspects; but the case gets real personalbefore getting solved.

Strong sexual content and language; and some perverse images andsituations. Rounding out the cast: Lou Taylor Pucci, Clifton CollinsJr., Zhang Ziyi and Patrick Fugit.
