The only way out... is in.
In rural Alabama, two couples find themselves in a fight for survival. Running from a maniac (The Tin Man) bent on killing them, they flee deep into the woods and seek refuge in a house. They soon realize the killer has purposely lured them to this house and that they are now trapped. As they huddle around an old fireplace, a tin can falls through the chimney. Scrawled on its side is a message from the killer, establishing his House Rules. The rules call for their deaths unless they kill at least one of the four. They have less than 12 hours to find a way to survive. At sunrise the game is over and everyone dies if the killer's demands aren't met. What they quickly learn is that the only way out... is in. But going further into this house--where unknown challenges await them--is equally deadly.

This movie rocked. I recently watched it and I was impressed. It wasn'tyour average slice and dice flick, it some nifty kills in it, but it ismore a psychological thriller. It is centered on a young coupleReynaldo Rosales and Heidi Dippold, who come across a house after beingstranded on a country road, there they meet another couple J.P. Davisand Julie Ann Emery, who are also seeking shelter from the storm. Whatthey don't know, is that this house is home to a vicious psychopath, who engages the them in a twisted game of survival. This movie waspretty sweet and it had Rob Zombie's actors, Bill Moseley, LeslieEasterbrook and Lew Temple in it. So, all in all, it wasn't a bad movieand I definitely recommend it.

It ain't no secret 'round here that Alabama po-lice are evil. Just askany of us Georgia boys and we'll tell ya'. Ask an Alabamian they'lltell you too, unless they're too scared. In that case they'll lie.
The whole economy of Alabama seems to entirely depend on money extortedby those roving bandits, from those dopes and slackers passing throughon their way to the Florida pan-handle to party hearty.
Too bad I'm stuck driving through there, trying to visit my kinfolk inPanama City!
Heck, one of them jokers even tried to push me around in my own homestate of Georgia! I had to let him know he ain't got no power over me'round here and sent him along his way with a laugh in the face and acar door in the gut. He tried to pull me over in the parking lot of theCircle K!
Seriously though, the movie is good on a no brainer level. The end, where you find out that Michael Madsen is the devil, is pretty muchtelegraphed way in advance, as is the car wreck twist.

I absolutely love the book. The book is awesome. Frank Peretti is myfavorite author, and House is one of his best works.
I bought the movie because it was based on the book which meant I hadto have it. The movie was not awful, but it was no where good as itcould have been. I did like the people who played the inbred's. Theywere funny. Although I was disappointed that Stuart didn't have much ofa part. I also liked the little girl who played Melissa, she was cute. And it was fun to watch a horror movie that will not give menightmares.
Nevertheless the story line was way too rushed, the characterizationwas off, scenes were changed in ridiculous ways, and the spiritualaspects which made me love the book so much were practicallynonexistent.
The book is an 11, the movie a 4.

Jack and Stephanie, a bickering married couple on their way to couples'counseling, get stranded in the woods after two of their tires get aflat. They find themselves at an old hotel to get out of the pouringrain and possibly call for help. There they find another strandedcouple, Leslie and Randy, who are the only other guests there. All foursoon find themselves meeting the owner's of the hotel who seem slightlyoff somehow. They decide to make the best of a bad situation until amaniac known as "the Tin Man" who's outside gives them an ultimatum:They all have till dawn to kill one of the four or they all die. Theyeach have to face their inner demons respectively if they wish tosurvive the night.
The juxtaposition of the term 'Christian Horror' has always struck meas somewhat peculiar as someone who grew up in the 1980's where a goodmany of the horror offerings had slightly religious morality: you hadpremarital sex, you died, you did drugs, you died, etcetera, etc. But Idigress, this had something most of the self-monikered 'christian'films lacked, good production values. Making it only doubly sad thatthe film's saddled with such a cliché story, poor characterization, trite dialog, and mediocre acting. I've heard the book is better, as isoften the case, but i'm not reviewing the book. And as a film, thisultimately fails.
My Grade: D+
DVD Extras: Trailers for Bella, & The Spirit. That's all, somedirector's commentary would've been nice but alas no

I had been waiting for this movie since it was announced it would comeout. I am a fan of the book which is just creepy and crazy. I alwaysknow that it is seldom that a movie is as good as the book, but thismovie killed the book with bordom.
The movie lacked intensity, fear or surprise. The acting was subpar andthe editing left many holes in the story leading to a confusing andpreachy movie. The characters don't develop during the movie and youare left with a cardboard taste.
Most of the original story line was destroyed and viewers are left witha watered down version of an intense story. The preachy added in partsjust took away.

Let me first say I watched it so you don't have to. House seems to be afilm geared to horror movie fans, surfing along on the bet that peopleare going to appreciate seeing reenactments of familiar scenarios. Sofamiliar in fact that it has a rip off quality to it, which ultimatelycomes across as lazy. The plot, if there is one, is about fourextremely attractive young people, stranded at the same time in a housein the middle of nowhere. When WILL these youngin's learn not to drivetheir classic cars down dirt roads in the boonies? There's a creepyfamily out there, just waiting to freak their freaks. The house inquestion IS pretty cool, I wouldn't mind owning it. It's big and litwith green lights and decorated with serial killer wallpaper. It'sbasement is enormous and there are serious plumbing problems.Absolutely nothing justifies the R rating, this could have aired on theSci-fi channel without edits. Was there a bribe on the part of theproducers? "Please sir, give us an R, that'll bring 'em in expectingshocks and gore". This movie has a Texas Chainsaw-lite family, suggestions of Satanism, little girl ghost, crazed killer, vaporousblack smoke, Spielberg like whispy thingies, gravity defying water, athunderstorm that appears right on cue, no cell phone signals, severaltwists, and Michael Madson cashing a paycheck. You'd think, that withall this, there would be something to watch, but no. It goes in manydirections, only to switch to another direction with no point, purposeor resolution. Awful.

A thriller, not necessarily a chiller directed by Robby Henson. Wigglein your seat good nonetheless. A young couple Jack(Reynaldo Rosales)andStephanie(Heidi Dippold), attempting to gather their thoughts aboutdealing with life's little failures, decide to take a road trip throughAlabama. Along the highway they come upon a traffic accident and aregiven a detour by Sheriff Lawdale(Michael Madsen). This particular forkin the road becomes dangerous when the couple run over truck partsscattered on the road leaving their vehicle incapacitated. The duo endsup at a creepy looking inn run by a strange woman(LeslieEasterbrook)and her homicidal family. They find another stranded coupleand soon the whole household is locked down in fear for their liveswith a masked madman outside demanding a dead body. The couples findthemselves haunted by flashbacks of their individual past sins and ofcourse there is the doubt in even trusting their off-putting hosts.
The sets and lighting make for a creepy atmosphere and what little yousee of Alabama in actuality is Poland. Others in the cast: BillMoseley, J.P. Davis, Allana Bale and Julie Ann Emery.

Please avoid this movie at all costs. Just read the book. It is Soooooomuch better.
This movie could've had potential had it not left out most of thereligious references. Those references are what makes the story somysterious and compelling right up to the end of the novel.
What was left over was sloppily put together and totally confusing evento people who did read the book. The book had more blood and gore thanthe movie even tried to have. A total mess and a complete waste oftime. The last 3 chapters of the book were better than this whole movieput together.
If you are going to sit on the couch for entertainment. Sit with thebook.
