The last man on earth is not alone
Robert Neville is a scientist who was unable to stop the spread of the terrible virus that was incurable and man-made. Immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and perhaps the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague -- The Infected -- lurk in the shadows... watching Neville's every move... waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered... and quickly running out of time.

Let's start with confessing that I was rather reluctant to the the ideaof watching a film where Will Smith roams the street of Manhattan allby himself armed with a gun… but in the end, I had read enoughenthusiastic comments so I decided to give it a try – which afterwardsonly confirmed my suspicions.
The main problem with this film is that it does not define itself as apure fantasy/horror genre but tries instead way too hard to createreferences to real life: scientist announcing cure for cancer, the yearbeing clearly defined, New York scenery, Bob Marley, Shrek etc. OK,this kind of mixing everyday life reality and absolute fiction workedjust fine for comedies e.g. "Ghostbusters" or "Back to the future" buthere it just made me roll my eyes with disbelief. We have to assumethat somehow the above cancer medicine was simply injected intomillions of people all over the world without even being testedappropriately and then – oops, it turns out that it actually killspeople or turns them into monsters?!!? This not being preposterousenough, we are to believe that the virus spreads way too fast so it cankill everyone including the government (which would have been isolatedright away), the Pentagon (same as the government), remote communitiesetc. It is also not quite clear how the streets are jammed with carsbut there is not even a trace of rotting bodies… I guess this wasalso some kind of flesh, bone and clothes eating virus that madeeverything disappear neatly:) Anyhow, apart from driving his SUV andshooting deer Will Smith has to hide from the mutants which obviouslyare debilitated enough so they can only roar and make evil grimaces -in terms of communication. Other than that, they also resemble vampiresi.e. start falling apart if exposed to direct sunlight – umm,ooh-kay… this is where it started getting a bit too much for me. Ofcourse there are also vampire dogs (!!) which means that the virussomehow spread among animals too but did not harm the deer, the lionsetc. By the way, the vampires/mutants do not seem to harm them either, obviously being vegetarian – which must be a good thing since they areable to jump and climb buildings with the agility of orangutans.
To tie up this story, there is a woman with a kid showing up at theright place and at the right time (talk about deus ex machina) as sheapparently was the only one to hear Will Smith's radio messages… Andthen, towards the end of the movie, we see military personnel which fora strange reason failed to hear those messages and no one bothers tohint why!! Moderatly entertaining movie which will require you tosuspend any logic to enjoy it.

If you have seen the old horror movie'I Am Omega'or if you have readthe book, then you probably know the plot of 'I Am Legend.'But since Ihaven't seen the original and I haven't read the book,I really wasn'tinterested in seeing the movie because I had no idea what the movie wasabout. One day,I decided to rent it On Demand for $3.99 and it was ablast! This movie was very suspenseful and scary. Will Smith plays thebest last survivor since the survivors in 28 days later and 28 weekslater, which were also very good movies. This movie was so good, itshould've won an Oscar.Anyone who gives this movie less than 7stars,you're crazy.

Ehhh, I expected a fun pack of action and gore but the truth is that "IAm Legend" is just an ordinary, regular post-apocalyptic flick thattries too hard to be considered as action horror.
The f/x are surprisingly bad for being a super Hollywood productionstaring Will Smith! The CGI monsters were truly a let down and worst ofall, the action sequences were pretty lame.
The positive thing about the movie is Will Smiths' performance and thedark, sad feeling surrounding of the post-Apocalyptic settings.
My theory is that the movie tried to be a new post-apocalypticmasterpiece or a huge blockbuster flick. The truth is that the ideasare very good but the execution is just regular. This is an actionflick you will soon forget.
Nice try, but it didn't work.

I am legend. A very suitable title. You may not notice straight awaybut it will come around eventually. Well what is there to say? Onceagain Smith is flawless. A clever plot. Great legendary music.wonderfully executed.
I'm sure you all know already. Yeah the movie is very slow, but doesthat mean boring? Not always. especially in this case. It keep's youthoroughly entertained and hooks on too your thoughts. Yes the movie'sslow, but at times it has your heart beating and delivers some thrillsalong with some twists. Will smith again is the cause of the success.Sure the movie would still be great even with out him, but many wouldhave not of watched with out him staring on the cast listing. As youwould expect he did a flawless job, it wasn't easy for him either asthe role he played was quite challenging. Yes there are many zombies inthe film. But it's not no resident evil.
Overall a wonderful different movie to watch. With some action, brilliant acting, a few thrills every now and then and some cool music.BOB MARLEY. Go see it

The cure for cancer has been discovered and a genetically modifiedvirus is the solution for our problems but it turns out that this virusis turning humans into man eating zombies and Robert Neville(willsmith) is the lone survivor . Now its upto him and his dog Sam to findthe cure for this disease and save mankind from extension. So we haveWill Smith driving Shelby Mustang GT500 on the 'empty' streets of NYChunting deers. We get well constructed shots of deserted NYC. The bondbetween Robert and his dog is amazing. The strength of the movie is itspace with well inserted flashbacks that explain the plot. Will smith isas usual good. But the script has some loose ends and is not veryconvincing at parts especially when the is a hint of god's interventionto save mankind. Its a worth watching once affair.

After reading numerous reviews (Ebert, in particular) that belittlethis movie's repetition of the Zombie/Terror/Monster aesthetic, I amflabbergasted in the lack of recognition for the talent in Will Smith, and how he can make a 1 character movie so powerful.
Whether or not this is politically correct, Will Smith is the AfricanAmerican Tom Hanks. Or maybe vice versa. And the comparison is no moreclear than with "I Am Legend" and "Cast Away." Both characters arefighting to survive in a hopeless, solitary state, wherein they exhibitamazing epiphanies about human psychology, and how we need to be socialcreatures, even if the creatures we confide in are not "real." For TomHanks (Cast Away), that personified character is Wilson, an inanimatevolleyball of whom all of Hanks's fears, hopes, and determinations fallupon. For Smith, this need for an "illogical" socialization isprofoundly (and disturbingly) addressed in his cordial conversationsthat he conducts in an abandoned record store with mannequins thatstare blankly ahead despite his charming, yet fragile persona.
This review is intended for those that have seen the movie, and arewilling to accept that this movie tackles starkly serious human issuesregarding the human need to preserve life, and the contrasting battlefor an individual who is reeling from the loss of his family, and isbattling from the subsequent, pervasive loneliness.
This is NOT a Zombie movie. Rather, this is a passionate and powerfullyexecuted glimpse into how a human may react in an incredibly inhumansituation.
This is a movie about determination, hope, and heroism. And Will Smithis the ONLY actor alive, besides Tom Hanks, that can make a 1 Man Movieso powerful.

When I was first told the premise of this film, I was interested. Thewhole world (read, everyone in the USA) has been turned into vampiresexcept this one guy, who goes around hunting them. (He doesn't,necessarily – his interests are wider than that.) Unfortunately, theguy is Will Smith. Oh well, once you are comfortable and intrigued bythe New York city landscape turning to wilderness, what you going todo? Will Smith (or a long list of stunt people, who were nominated foran award) rips around NYC in a 4WD/SUV with an intelligent dog andmusic blaring, ready to fire at anything that moves (bar some kind ofantelope).
Robert Neville, this survivor, is so *methodical*. And his methodswork. Also, he has so many personas. There is Colonel Robert Neville, doing his duty and saving his city. The flippant Robert Neville, flirting with mannequins. Scientist Robert Neville. Fit and carefulRobert Neville, who makes sure he and his dog survive by following hisown rules. There is scared Robert Neville, who I very much identifywith. And of course, vulnerable Robert Neville.
The best thing about this film is that it is so SCARY. I seriouslythought of not watching it, or at least lining my stomach with a glassof milk to prevent an ulcer.
Edit: I was told the novel was written 50 years ago, and I loved theconcept, so I read it. I think the film is a fair if not superioradaptation. For example, I don't find the vampires in the book veryscary. Robert Neville fist-fights a few of them at once, which he wouldnot be able to do with the fast, strong vampires of the movie.Similarly, the vampires of the book know where he lives from the start, and can't get in the house. The technology in the book is old (eg awatch that needs winding, projectors instead of DVD players); if youhad to be true to that technology, you'd end up making a period film.
