Live Free or Die (2006)

It's not the crime, it's the cover-up. In small-town, hard-scrabble New Hampshire, foul-mouthed all-talk slacker John “Rugged” Rudgate fancies himself a criminal. When a local plumber stares him down at a pub, Rugged vows revenge, pouring brake fluid in the man's water supply. When the man dies from unrelated causes, Rugged and his side-kick, the even dimmer Jeff, try to cover up what they think is murder. One bad decision begets another.

This movie was totally unique and I agree with the guy who said PaulSchneider is awesome. He played some kind of autistic dumb dude in thistotally believable and hilarious way. I wish I got to see it again andwill definitely keep my eyes out for it. Also really dug JudaFriedlander who has this obscene scene that I really want to watchagain. He plays this guy who has to talk about all the people who mightwant to get back at him for nasty stuff he did. Always nice to seeMichael Rapoport, who was playing a part different from stuff I've seenhim in. There was a new face I liked too. don't remember his name buthe was the bad-ss on the riding mower. This is a funny movie and if youare sick of the same old puke from ferrell and sandler you will dig it.Oh, and Zooey Deschanel is a fox.

Last night I decided to go to a movie at the Woods Hole Film Festival.Live Free or Die grabbed my attention, so I blindly went in, hoping fora mediocre movie. The Film Festival is good, but my expectations arenever that high. Boy how I was wrong. Written and directed by twoformer writers from Seinfeld, this movie was wonderfully funny and of aprofessional quality. It was impossible to believe that they only hadone camera and less than $2 million! It was like watching a big nameHollywood picture, except without all the crap product placements. Ifyou have a chance to see this movie, do it. They hope to at least do aNew England or a college release, but I sincerely hope that it gets awider distribution.

I saw this movie at the Portsmouth NH film festival at the Music Hall.I expected to see a lot of short so-so films, but this one wasdifferent – An unexpected pleasure. It has ended up to be the best filmI've seen all year. Very funny, very New Hampshire, and very original.Story and acting right up there with all the big name films. Ithoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were excellent – Aaron Stanfordand Paul Schneider were great together. Schneider's character was soperfect – amazing. Glad I had the chance to see it and wish the rest ofmy family could have seen it too. Highly recommend this film – itdeserves to go on to play on its own in more theaters. Really great!

this movie could never have been made by Hollywood because they willnever try something new. If you are sick of dumb and dumberer part 7check this out. paul schneider was in all the real girsl with zooeydeschanel and they are back showing they can act in any role becausenow they are playing quarreling brother and sister. I did notunderstand why they cast Stanford because comedy is not his thing butmaybe they were not going for comedy with him. Paul Schneider is ariot. Fudah Freedlander is a riot. there is a lot to like but most ofall it's DIFFERENT If you liked Fargo you will like this. if you likeBottle Rocket you will like this. If you need everything explained toyou you will hate it.

It is one of the funniest movies I have seen.

I never watched a whole Seinfeld episode and the few minutes I zappedinto that show, I just did not find it funny, so I had no expectationsfor this movie.

In the beginning I was thinking, aww this movie will be boring, butthen it picked up big time. It is the whole way so over the top, maybea little less and it would have been a movie classic, like say Fargo. Idid not quite like the ending, but maybe because the ending meant thatthe movie was over and I had nothing more to laugh at.

I hope these two guys from Seinfeld will make a lot more movies likethis!

  6. Gordon-11 says:

This film is about a dumb criminal trying to get a job done withanother even dumber criminal partner.

I watched this film because of the number of big name actors in thefilm. I regretted making this decision though. The initial 1 hour ofthe movie was a pain to watch. I know the film could have been funny,as there were many mischiefs that were momentarily funny. However, thehighly annoying characters were so dumb that they are almostunbelievable! Of course, this also signified that the two criminalswere portrayed so successfully and realistically that makes me hatethem. Anyway, the film picked up a lot more humour in the last 15minutes, and became a lot more funny.

I didn't like this movie much. It is not a total disaster, but a comedythat didn't make me laugh once, probably doesn't work. Its looks good, but the dialog is so poor. The actors are pretty wooden and mediocre, the only exception is Paul Schneider who's part requires him to bewooden and mediocre and he does it well.

Basically this is the story of somebody who wants to be someone, namelya gangster, but although he thinks he tries so hard he can't foolanyone in small town with people who just don't buy it.

Don't want to reveal more from the story, but wouldn't recommend you tofind out for your self – you can safely skip it

    4/10

    peace
