I never liked the comic strip; why the hell would I watch the film? When I grew up in Bakersfield (where I still live), my Dad had read theLos Angeles Times for awhile instead of The Bakersfield Californian. Ithink he read the Times for a while as it had better articles than ouractual local paper. But of course, I was only 8. To me, the Times was abulky paper where I cared for nothing but the comics. I mean why wouldI be interested in local news, sports, & TV programming that was abouta hundred miles south of town? Maybe if my Dad were still buying theTimes from the rack while I was a college student, it coulda been handyas a better source for my research papers. Only then would I agree thatthe Times makes the Californian look like crap that’s better off in thebottom of my sister’s birdcages.
