Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

It's the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson's Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they're not happy: Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy's mother. As Percy finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, he and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy's mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

For starters, the acting was poor and not believable. Logan Lerman justmade me feel uneasy and made me think he was on some kind of stimulantdrug. Having seen him in 3:10 to Yuma, I had expected a bit more, buthe just didn’t deliver. Brandon T. Jackson… well, he did alright, butstill didn’t feel credible. Pierce Brosnan overacted and made it seemas though he was massively constipated. The only one I felt pleasedwith was Sean Bean who did okay, but still far from his best.

The screenplay.. well, for starters, the writers should have sat downwith a Mythology for Dummies. It was quite lacking in that end. And thewhole “Demi-God Camp” with hundreds of God offspring seemed a little…peculiar, considering the limited amount of Gods to produce thatoffspring. Oh, and the fact that the whole thing took place in theUnited States struck me somewhat odd.

The CGI wasn’t at all great. I drew a lot of parallels between Xena:Warrior Princess and Hercules, but it was passable. Just not up therein the league with the other films we’ve seen this year.

All in all, a.. ‘watchable’ film that could definitely use a differentcast and a larger budget. Not to mention writers.

If you read the book you would understand why its in america

the movie rocked! i loved it!!

I don't understand why Hollywood has to take a good but, pull 10% ofthe story and then throw the rest out.

Changed the Villains, removed Major Characters that would make makingadditional books into movies very hard. They took one character andbasically changed her name and made her someone else.

If they didn't like the book why do they bother to make the movie?? Ifit isn't broken why fix it.

I just flat out don't understand, I mean it's not a bad movie, but itcould have been a great movie instead of just another OK fantasy movie.

Another Question I have is why Hollywood keeps confusing Hades withSatin? Zeus, Poseidon and Hades divided up the world. Hades was notbanished to Tartarus and Tartarus is not Hell, ALL souls go to Hadesdomain the Good and the Bad. Not all of Tararus is a bad place. Hasanyone from Hollywood ever studied Greek Mythos? If anyone would liketo know.

Ares and Kronos where behind the plot to steal the Master Bolt, Theyalso stole Hades Helm of Darkness which was used to steal the masterbolt. The big battle at the end of the Book was between Ares and Percynot Luke and Percy. The book had a great plot with twists and turnswith tones of a good action mystery story.

Also in the book Percy is a hero a real hero. In the movie things movePercy around and he is simply lucky not a real hero. I know Hollywooddoesn't understand good and evil or hero's and villains, but I surewish they'd learn.

Really CRAPPY movie. the charecters were 12 in the book. Annabeth looks atleast 20+ and none of them is younger that 18. Annabeth was more like clarisse in this and the myths are completely screwed over. a god becomes human if he spends too much time with his children? that was rbbish. wish hollywood would actually read the book before ‘remaking’ it into a movie! the way the movie was made it felt like the writers of the script had read a synopsis of a synopsis of the book. where the hell was kronos, no mention of the great prophecy. luke looks like he’s dead and no history of annabeth and luke shown… At all. she looks like she hates him rather than has a crush on him!! and hades was not evil like in the movie. his helm had been stolen so he was pissed! and erebus was not like hell on tartarus was. and persephone doesnt hate hades like in the movie. Hollywood really needs to read books before making them into movies. this project should be scrapped and redone- with new writers and a much younger cast!

  9. JuLz Says:

    1.) Loved the movie.
2.) The cast was awesome. (To me, Alexandra Daddario did project the image I had of Annabeth-even if her hair color was different, people! Quit your whining!)
3.) One thing I did not like was that they (writers) messed with the whole plot of the book. I mean, it came out good, but seriously, that’s a big no~no. I can forgive minor things like different hair color or older protagonists than said in the book, but not that finding pearls was the whole point of the movie. (By the way, where was Ares? Clarisse? Mr.D? Hmmm.) I hope that in the future, they don’t make this same mistake.
4.) Logan Lerman; Such a cool and cute Poseidon kid. Alexandra Daddario; I’d create a monument for her if I had the power, great performance! Brandon T. Jackson; Hilarious! By the way, nice moves on the dance floor.
5.) Luke is my least favorite character so I thought it was great that he got pwned in the end.
**Anyway, I’m done spilling out everything, I really hope loads of people see this. Maybe then they will lay off the movie and APPRECIATE IT!**
