This movie was definitely not one of the greatest, yeah it had somecool fighting scenes and action, but it lacked so much more. As I waswatching this movie I felt like it was just a bunch of people throwinga movie together on anything they could to try and make some money. Thezombies looked terrible, the first resident evil movie they have peoplemissing half of their faces and blood dripping, but you this one youcan notice its people in masks. This movie was the bare minimum hourand 30 minutes long, about 15minutes of that hour and 30 was straightdriving scenes, not exciting driving scenes… its just people driving.Over all unless your a huge Resident Evil fan i wouldn't suggestwasting your time.
I absolutely love the Resident Evil games (especially 4 and 5) but Idid not love the 1st Resident Evil movie. (gave it a 5) Passable butthat's it. The 2nd movie was edited in such a way that it wasultimately headache inducing. (gave it a 4) Could have been so muchmore.
I went into watching Resident Evil: Extinction with a feeling of slightdread. How did this end up being beyond decent and the best so far inthe series? (not counting Degeneration).
The first thing that comes to mind is the Editing. Way better than thefirst 2. Better Director and effects and a better movie comes our way.
I would have rated this even higher but alas the ending "showdown" wasto normal and average for me. (The VERY last sequence was right back ontrack though).
Overall I was shocked how much better this was than the previous oneswere.
The third movie in a series that writer Paul W.S. Anderson alwaysenvisaged as a trilogy may surprise a lot of people by not only beingvery good in a pure popcorn pleasure way but by also being, arguably, the best of the bunch.
There are less nods to the franchise here, beyond the basic overallstory arch and a few characters (Ali Larter appears as Claire Redfieldwhile Oded Fehr and Mike Epps return alongside, obviously, MillaJovovich), but there are new revelations and twists that tie up thewhole series and point the way towards a very satisfying conclusion.
After an intriguing opening sequence we are briefed on the situation asit is now: the infection could not be contained and has subsequentlyravaged the world and it's populace. People struggle to survive in aridconditions while the zombies thrive. Some of the survivors include aconvoy "led" by Claire Redfield and you just know that it's only amatter of time until they meet up with Alice. Added into the mix thistime around are even more "mad scientist" moments, savage people tryingto trick innocent victims and some genetically-altered "super-zombies"who move quicker, possess greater strength and are even supposed tohave a bit more intelligence. Luckily, Alice has some more tricks upher sleeve too thanks to the scientists who made the mistake of lettingher slip through their fingers.
Directed by Russell Mulcahy, this is a vast improvement over theprevious movie in the series and almost makes for a great standaloneentry into the apocalyptic horror subgenre. The acting is a notch abovethe previous entries, the effects work consistently impresses and thestory actually comes together in a way that, while not brain-bustinglyingenious, certainly provides a little bit more food for thought thansome "popcorn" flicks.
A great movie in it's own right and a decent film for the fans of boththe games and the previous instalments.
See this if you like: Resident Evil, Resident Evil video game, Land OfThe Dead.
Paul Anderson needs to be stopped. These movies have gotten out ofhand, and are getting worse with each one.
The first "Resident Evil" was a good movie. It could be approached as asequel to the game series, and really had an eerie video-game vibe."Apocalypse" could have been so good, following "Resident Evil:Nemesis", but Paul Anderson completely screwed it up.
Resident Evil: Extinction is awful. Milla Jovovich is getting horriblytired and the "badass superhero chick" thing is so cliché and stupid itmakes you roll your eyes.
It takes place mostly in a desert, as the survivors of the T-Virus headto Alaska, for some stupid reasons, and in the process FIGHT ZOMBIES!Nothing too intelligent for the audience here. The "gore" is upped abit, but it's still extremely tame and only somebody who hasn't beenexposed to real violence would be disturbed by it.
The film easily could have been called something else, as it hasNOTHING to do with Resident Evil at all, except for character NAMES,Umbrella Corp. and the T-Virus. Claire Redfield makes her firstappearance on film, played by…Ali Larter? Yes, a bad actress whodoesn't come close at all to resembling the Claire from the RE games.Blonde hair, badass attitude, stupid dialogue, everything that Clairewas not. Wesker also makes an appearance, for about 2 minutes, onceagain ONLY carrying the name Albert Wesker, not resembling thecharacter whatsoever.
There are numerous pointless and drug out scenes, an example being thescene at the beginning where **Minor spoilers** a gang of inbredrednecks attack Alice and force to fight some creatures or something??Stupid, unneeded scene, only there to show how freakin' badass Alicecan be.
Paul A. only used the RE name to cash in on his cheap, straight-to-DVDscripts and obviously it's working. I don't know how in the hell thispile of crap gets anything over a 5.0 rating, as it's barely an averagemovie. The only reason I give it a 4 is because Oded Fehr is great, andseeing the Tyrant, if only for a while and to have him horribly, lazilykilled off, on film was a treat.
Watch out for the awful, eye-rolling inducing ending to this junk.Reall, only see this if you're just following the series. If you're aTRUE Resident Evil fan, avoid this at all costs..
Resident Evil: Extinction gets a generous 4/10
Resident Evil Apocalypse was as awful as The Battlefield Earth for meand Extinction is better than Apocalypse, but still very bad. There arenot a few, a lot of very good movies whose points are less than 5.0 !but the movies such as Apocalypse or Extinction are more than 6.0 Toopainful. In Apocalyse, the scenes zombies appear were very odd, unsatisfying owing to the camera, the whole movie was extremelytasteless, so no fun at all. There was a ridiculous monster which a lotof people adore by saying oh! Nemesis. The opening scene aims tosurprise the audience, but cannot. Only two things are positive good inthe movie. The panoramic views and desert images are very dazzling andshort-haired Alice is a breath of fresh air. The abominable familyrecalls Judge Dredd and exciting. Except the first one, Resident Evilmovies do not focus on the battle between people and zombies exactly, there are awful, inconsistent sub stories and bad guys. Don't newResident Evil movies find other brilliant ideas? In fact, when I learntthe director would shoot this movie, I was very glad about that, because I like Russell Mulcahy, yes Highlander series. However, hedisappointed me. The cliché of the people who hunt zombies for fun in aconvoy is here, but at least they cause fun. In contrast, the scenesthat show their lives are uninteresting. The best part of the moviebegins, when they arrive at New York. However, zombie make up effectsare awful, there are time-lapse shots which good news for 28 Days Laterfans, but very bad news for Resident Evil fans. In other words, thispart is fun, but not well shot. The monster of Extinction is not asridiculous as Nemesis, but still terrible. If you know who turns into amonster, you would agree with me. Don't worry, not Alice. It is alsotoo monstrous. Why we cannot see an impressive and interesting creaturein the R.E. movies?
