When he first fell in love...
Orphaned and homeless Ranbir Raj re-locates to a small town and orders a glass of milk in the RK Bar. He befriends a prostitute by the name of Gulabji, who invites him to spend the night with her, and when he refuses, she re-directs him to Lillian who rents out rooms. Ranbir meets with Lillian, who has been living alone for 37 years after her son, Vincent, left to join the army and did not return, charms her, and rents a room from her. He gets a job as a singer in a local restaurant. On the occasion of Eid, while returning home, he comes across a woman standing on the bridge. He finds her very attractive, befriends her, walks her home, finds out her name is Sakina, who is a carpet weaver and lives with her aunt and blind grandma. Just when Ranbir is about to confess his love, she tells him that she has already given her heart to Imaan, a former tenant of her grandmother's. Imaan had left, promising to return on Eid, but has not done so. She finds out that he may be staying at the Momim Lodge and asks Ranbir to deliver a letter to him. A crestfallen Ranbir destroys the letter, but does go to Momim Lodge, and this is where he finds that no one by the name of Imaan had ever lived there. Encouraged by this news, he returns back and attempts to win Sakina's heart. The question remains will he succeed or will Sakina spend the rest of her life waiting for Imaan's return?

Its really not the movie for anyone. The movie is been made fun at andalso criticized for its slow pace. The people who say that mostly don'trealize the artistic values in the movies.
The darkness in the movie indicates the sad end in the beginningitself, the colors symbolizes the dreamy and timeless nature of thelove story depicted in the movie.
Randhir Kapoor has portrayed the character of a guy who came to findhis dream very well.Even though actress in the film lacks the properacting skills , it suffice the need as there not much of footage asthat of the Randhir Kapoor in movie.
Director Bhansali has handled a complicated story very well.
Music is amazing, the songs have beautiful and the background scoresuits the screenplay not earsplitting loud like Om shanti Om which wasreleased in the same month .
If you are looking for a love story to forget all others, this is theone.

SLB = Sanjay Leela Bhansali
What to Listen: Music and songs – very nice that's why I gave it a 4star. Because, although its music and poetry is pretty good. But I wasexpecting a video movie and not a music album. So, close your eyes andlisten to music to enjoy.
What to watch:
Acting of Rani Mukharji.
Nacked bum of Ranbir Kapoor
What not to watch:
This movie.
Story: disruptive patches, no connection b/w different scenes that whatis happening and why?
Which era this story/movie belongs to?
Which country and culture this movie belongs to? Looks like Indian buthey … tell me if you figure this out?
Why Sonum Kapoor was running around in the first scene? Why she got inlove so madly with Imaan (Salman Khan)?
Why Salman Khan (Imaan) left, Why came back?
Why Ranbir Kapoor was punching in the air like Rocky Balboa in lastscenes. He is a singer, not a boxer. So much for over acting.
All movie is picturized around a little pound with blue-ish backgroundand fog and smug and rain and darkness… My eyes are so tired. I don'tthink its an Indian city. It is really a dream city. (may be inRussia).
THE END.

If u read the critics you won't able to see the real color ofSaawariya. This film is a master piece even if its copied by anotherfilm La Notti Blanche this film is the best. The new comers RanbirKapoor & Sonam Kapoor were mind-blowing. The critics are really harshwith Saawariya but its a great film. Sanjay Leela Bansali proves againhis Master Working in this Magical film. The beauty , music and thecast of this film maked me go watch this film. Monty the musical masterof this film chosen the really music for each special time for thefilm. Jab Se Tere Naina , Yoon Shabnami , Masha-Allah and all thosegreat tracks were from him. Thode Badmash was from SLB himself.

I finally saw all of Saawariya and I think it is one of SLB's weakestfilms, even weaker than Black. I give it a 5/10. My problem – it issupposed to be a dreamy romance, but there is absolutely NO ROMANCE inthe film, either between Raj and Sakina or Sakina and Imam. It is kindof sad that the only connection that seems tangible is between GulabJiand Raj – two "friends". This makes the film incredibly boring. Thesets were oppressive and the lighting instead of being moody was justplain gloomy. I have a feeling that perhaps a little more Salman couldhave livened up the proceedings, but he was hardly there. Sonam cannotact and looks decent only from certain angles. Ranbir was charming in afew moments but he is made to be deliberately goofy and silly. And thehuge RK hangover is abhorrent and manipulative in the film. That songwith the white clad men dancing in weird poses reminded me of Khwajamere khwaja from Jodhaa Akbar!!
I think the standout was Rani and the irritants were Zohra Sehgal,Sonam and the random hookers and men in white. Ranbir was a neutralfactor and Salman hardly there. White Nights is a brilliant film, fullof a certain mood and darkness, in a rather large setting. So acomparison with Saawariya is inevitable. But while the acting in WN issuperb and the film is infused with soul, Saawariya is a strangeunsatisfying concoction that fails to appeal at any level.

Ever since watching the astoundingly breathtaking Devdas I was quiteeager to watch Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya and having actuallynow watched the film I cannot understand why this film was notappreciated more.
Once again Sanjay Leela Bhansali does not disappoint as he sends theaudience on a magical love story situated in an enchanting nocturnalneverland that is quite simply a superb visual feast that will delightthe senses. Saawariya tells the magical and tragic story of Ranbir Raj,(Ranbir Kapoor), a young and innocent musician who wins everyone'sheart. He is full of life and wins over anyone he comes across, hespreads joy and brings a smile onto everyone's faces with hisirresisitible persona and charm. One night the lonely Raj happens upona chance encounter with a mysterious figure on a bridge. The mysteriousimage turns out to be none other than a heartbreakingly beautiful youngMuslim girl named Sakina, (Sonam Kapoor). Her silent eyes are full ofmystery and sorrow. She awaits the man she loves, Imaan, (Salman Khan)who had to go away a year earlier leaving her behind and promising toreturn for her on the night of Eid. Raj's chance encounter with Sakinaleads to him inevitably falling in love with her. Their meetingdevelops into a friendship and series of unforgettable nights filledwith music, passion and romance.
The visual splendor and music of this film are so lush and lovely thatit is simply not to be missed. Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor deliverexcellent performances especially for their first film. In shirt,Saawariya is nothing less than a masterpiece. I would say ignore anybad reviews you have seen or heard of this film and give it a chance.Saawariya is definitely something different and unique and is the sortof film that needs to appreciated for it's ethereal and extravagantlybreathtaking beauty.
