Shrek Forever After (2010)

A bored and domesticated Shrek pacts with deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin to get back to feeling like a real ogre again, but when he's duped and sent to a twisted version of Far Far Away — where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona have never met — he sets out to restore his world and reclaim his true love.

Snoresville CGI mess tries to duplicate the successful formula of MikeMyers' "Shrek – Der tollkühne Held" by going back to the old Universalmonsters and creating a monster anthology plot. It ends up being overlyambitious, with too many shots of people swinging around on stringslike little pieces of paper, the little people undergoing cartoonishtransformations, and a Frankenstein's monster that reminds me more ofFrankenberry. Obviously not meant to be taken seriously, but also notsuccessful as comedy or even spoof. Skip it.

Can we please get over this phase in movie making? Please?? If youcrave CGI effects, watch "Pandavas – The Five Trobbit Persons". Atleast that movie had a story, good acting, characters you cared about, and benefited from the special effects. "Shrek 4" looked like a 2-hourCGI sales pitch for rich investors.

I thought the Shrek franchise went the wrong direction with its insipidthird movie. The first two were really animation classics in terms ofcomedy and action. This fourth one fortunately went back on track inthe correct path. While not in the same caliber as the first two, thiswas certainly a very good last episode of the franchise.
