I don't know about you, but I'm getting pretty sick and tired of thesewatered down, poorly written teen horror films that seem to come outnearly every other week. The worst thing about it is that they don'teven try anymore.

This movie in particular, The Haunting in Connecticut, is really just aseries of jump scares and over-the-top musical queues to let you knowto "be afraid" at that exact scene. It's ridiculous, and it's not justthis movie that does that, either.

I'm tired of these crap films making it into theaters now when trulygreat movies are thrown beneath the radar. It pisses me off, along withhow stupid this movie is. Really, how did Virginia Madsen go from beingan Oscar nominated actress in Sideways to hamming it up in aworse-than-a-hammer-production teen horror movie?

After their oldest son is diagnosed with cancer, a family moves to alarge house in Connecticut (to be closer to the hospital where the sonis receiving treatment) where they soon start to be tormented byghostly happenings & visions (mostly paying their visits to the son)after further investigations, they realize that the place was a formerfuneral home with some very unhappy memories & ghosts who don't like itnone that the family is in their midst & will gladly take theirsupernatural attacks a step further to prove it unless the family canfind a way to end the terror. THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT is a wellmade supernatural thriller in the veins of such films as THE AMITYVILLEHORROR. The film has many spooky scenes & images, a good pace, wellexecuted direction & acting & a spooky looking house! However beingthat this is a Hollywood movie, many things in the film are just plainsilly, a few details were changed from the true story which oftenresults in a few unintended chuckles (the ending is ludicrous!) whichis sad because T.H.I.C. could have been a true first rate thriller. Notthe greatest film ever made & really would have been better had it beenmade shorter (with an even quicker pace) nonetheless the film is arecommendation for fans looking for something other than an awfulremake of a horror classic or a pointless gore movie with little else.

Most movies about ghosts are pretty lame and without drama. While'Haunting' could fall easily into this, it does have its moments butdoesn't know what to do with them. It's a very boring film that startsoff with sound-based jumpscares but then leans into its story a wholeforty-eight minutes in.

The acting isn't horrible, and the movie itself could have beensomething interesting with a bigger budget and better editing. Instead,we get a movie that only seems half there. We get some idea oninterfamily strife, but we barely know who is who and why this familywith a cancer-ridden son be supporting three children who are not theirown. Or if they even rent or buy their Connecticut home.

And, truth be told, some of the effects at the very end reveal thecheapness of the production. While impressive enough to destroy ahouse, there are some moments that are unintentionally funny and shouldhave been edited better.

But it's worth your time to watch. Compared to its brethren, it's not ahorrifically bad film, but it is lacking. And the cover art featuring azero-gravity loogie should have been better thought out despite being agraphic image. The CGI in this movie is restrained for the most partand effective.

I'll admit that I haven't seen one of these haunted house films in alittle while because, to be quite frank, I got so tired of retreadafter retread since The Ring and others hit big in the US. Yes I haveseen others but I just haven't been thrilled by what seemed to be thesame old story. This complaint is what surprises me about many of thereviews here.

I found The Haunting In Connecticut to be surprisingly refreshing. No,you don't have a groundbreaking new story but the story you do have isgood, well supported by the actors and very well supported by a goodwriter. The dialogue actually sounds like words that people might say. What an amazing concept! :) It has been a rare case that I actuallyeven care about the characters and what's the deal with the majorityalways having to revolve around water? After a while a puddle with hairis a puddle with hair but you don't have that here. You actually have apretty good bit of drama that is setup here. The way the ghost/s areintroduced and used throughout is creepy as ever and the soundtrack istop notch. Others may say this is just another haunted house story butI haven't liked something this good since BEFORE The Ring. It remindsme of Amityville in ways but better.

I like all types of horror. Give me slashers, zombies, haunted houses, clowns, mutants or dolls. The thing is that there are getting to be farfewer come out with this much care put into them. I still don't mindthe B movie experience but this is Grade A all the way.

This is a unique movie, the style that it's laid out in make you feelas if your actually involved in the plot, if the fact that its based ona true story doesn't immediately strike terror into your heart Don'tworry by the time you get half way through you'll likely be changingyour 2nd pair underwear. Definitely not a movie for the softhearted.this title will have u up at night for at least a week afteryou've seen it. It really doesn't do this heart stopper any justicecomparing it to any other title in its blood type …the bestcomparison i could come up with …..its the "Scare Face" of horrorsthis title DOSE NOT disappoint if your a hardcore horror fan its a"must see" if your just looking for some trills look no further this isyour movie! if I had to "try" and sum it up in one word i'd go with"Terrifying" …

you may be reading some weird comments over the movies i went on ranthere at this web site under my name which is Evren Buyruk but I amtrying to give you guys the core notion i absorb from movies.Yes,Iwanted to post the wine comment on the summary area 'cause I do believethis movie is like one of the rare classics of horror movie genre.I'msure it helped that I was in the right mood and the right atmospherewhen I saw this movie at a midnight screening at South by Southwest, but The Haunting in Connecticut was a horror movie that really struck achord with me.

I'm a longtime fan of this genre, getting acquainted with all the oldclassics and cult films through USA Saturday Night Horror when I wasyoung, and continuing to see and love newer ones, such as The Ring, throughout college. However, when I go on a rant about the currentstate of horror movies, I tell people that today's movies make youheighten your sense of disbelief too much in order to be scared – Icall it "fantasy horror." There aren't enough movies like The Exorcistanymore where it absolutely feels real, like something that has alwaysexisted but you've just been lucky enough to avoid.

I loved The Haunting in Connecticut, because it is much closer toreality horror than fantasy, and I suppose that's because it's based ona true story. It just doesn't feel like it came straight out ofsomeone's imagination. It was the kind of movie where, not only did Ifind myself wondering about the true story of the Snedeker family, butwhen I went to sleep that night, I couldn't help pondering the historyof my own home and its previous tenants. If you're the type of personwho loves horror movies, I assume that's the exact creepy way you wantthem to resonate.

Besides the background story, one of the other reasons I think thismovie worked was because of the performance of Kyle Gallner. This youngman plays a much more complex (and believable) protagonist than most ofthe ones I've seen in horror films lately, as his character, Matt, hasa very familiar (and scary in its own right) disease that makes himquestion whether the haunting is real, or a symptom of his sickness. Iventure to say that his character could have made an interesting movieeven BEFORE the paranormal activity starts, but Gallner was exceptionalin this role, and I think we'll still be talking about "the boy in TheHaunting in Connecticut," 10 years from now.

So for true horror movie fans, I definitely recommend checking this oneout. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with a horror movie basedcompletely in fantasy-land, like Nightmare on Elm Street, but thecreepiest horror usually has a dose of reality. This film will scareyou, it will make you think and it will leave a lastingimpression.Evren Buyruk from USA
