That was just horrible! Horrible and so lame!
I like horror movies, but this one is just retarded…
Once again, we are presented with young women with no brains! Youngwomen, who apparently know nothing about the world – or moreimportantly: the people who live in it… Especially in USA, whereeveryone can get a gun. The home of some of the greatest psychos in theworld!
It pisses me off, that these girls are so damn passive. They are doingalmost nothing to get away! They get beaten, raped, shot and left fordead. Who – in their right mind – would just stand there and take it?!Seriously?!
And that's the other thing that pisses me off: The girl in the watergets shot – clearly – in her upper back, through the ribs.
Now…that's a punctured lung! That means blood will fill the lung, andthen you drown, in your own blood – or it will collapse, either way:You're screwed. She lost A LOT of blood. She is face down, in the river- full of river water, witch isn't exactly pure!
But that's okay! Because she CRAWLS back, through the forest, ALL theway back to the house, and knocked on the door. Sure, sure, everything's fine: Besides – all of a sudden, it's only a shallow woundto the shoulder. She's fine!!
That's CRAP! Please… Gimme a break.
I stopped the movie. That's a s*** movie. Right there.

I'm not sure that this is worth commenting on, but what the hell. "TheLast House on the Left" has some impressive production for what amountsto a popcorn snuff simulation. The direction is far more sophisticatedthan the base story and the effect is awkward, as if a B-Horror moviewas being form-fitted for a family audience. A friend mentioned RobertZemeckis' "What Lies Beneath" and this film does play like a perverseoffspring of a movie like that and Wes Craven's original "The LastHouse…" (sans the intestinal fondling and oral sex).
The lengthy rape scene centerpiece stands out like a grotesque artisticmisstep and the rest of the violence has the extreme nature ofslapstick. The rape is designed for audience meditation but unlikeIngmar Bergman's "The Virgin Spring" there is no level of seriousnessor moral weight to the rest of the movie and so the scene simply existsto give people a knee-jerk validation for enjoying the violence whichoccurs later. As far as the non-rape oriented violence is concerned"The Last House on the Left" is all about over the top. Are thosesounds of pain or pleasure as a woman is being double penetrated withknives? How about some good old fashioned garbage disposal fun? Everwondered what would happen to a guys head in a jerry-rigged microwave? The father in this film is so curious about the latter that he will lethis dying daughter wait outside while makes the experiment ("And tohell with that justifiable homicide charge now, we're going forfirst-degree murder honey").
When someone finds enjoyment in savage behavior, do the motivatingfactors (sadistic compulsion vs. personal instigation) make suchenjoyment any more or less unhealthy? Does dislocated violence in artwork as catharsis or is the term a cop-out for sadomasochisticthrillers? Can a movie be unintentionally sexist and pro-rape? Why is"edgy" expression a positive thing socially? Is it funny or interestingto live in a society that exploits horrific realities for profit andmass amusement, or is banal and sad? I think there is a juxtapositionin the pulp writing and the aesthetic direction of "Last House on theLeft" which unintentionally raises questions like these and then shrugsthem off for camp shocks and useless social philosophy (e.g., brutalityas an appropriate reaction to brutality). But even as the living skullslaugh and cheer at impossible death the money is exchanging hands. Ithink maybe banal and sad, but that's me. Cheers.

As soon as the film starts I knew this was going to be another clichéhorror film and features almost every cliché in the book.Helplessteenagers smoking dope in trouble, running through the woods, fallingover and twisting their ankles and nasty men who spout predictable oneliners.but it's not always as predictable as you think.
A part of me thinks it should of stuck to those generalisations becauseas they clearly tried to make it perhaps more intense and psychologicalthen other horrors such as involving the main victim's parents,it fallsshort to make any impact.
You may have heard about a scene in which the main character is rapedfor a lengthy amount of screen time. This does in fact set it apart fromothers films and it is certainly uncomfortable. But the controversialscene is wasted as it feels completely unnecessary and doesn't match tofeel or match anyway near the other dilemmas throughout the film.Itplainly seems just to be there to shock but this film is clearly notgood enough to execute such a scene, when the plot is obvious and theactors aren't bringing anything new to make up from the bad script.
So recommended for fans of horror but expect some occasionaluncomfortable scenes.Probably not one to watch with your family.

From start to end it was an amazing movie. Right from the get-go thecharacters get set up for an amazing plot line that leaves audiencesecstatic and fulfilled. Most of the scenes are well played out and Ihad a hard time finding a problem with the acting.
One scene captures the real horror of rape. 10/10 for the acting onthat scene and two thumbs up for the producers on their take of it.However, having had my cousin raped and murdered as a young girl thescene hits home a little hard so I'm throwing a word of caution to anywho think it might bring up bad memories. Seriously, it's that graphic.
All in all: Amazing movie. 10/10

From start to finish this had me on the end of my seat and I loved itand the way it ended was great as well if it had ended badly and thegoodies had died I would be saying different. The fact they get revengeis what makes the violence acceptable after what they put their lovedone through.
I actually felt really bad for the mother and father putting thesepeople up for the night but they got even!!
THe film starts by familiarising yourself with the family, lovingparents, nice home, concerned about where their daughter is etc.
Really well done and acting is spot on.
Loved the microwave scene at the end!
Hope to see more of these films I think it was very similar to EdenLake!

The Last House On The Left is a decent horror remake among many othersbeing re-imagined these days like Friday The 13th, The Hills Have Eyes, and Halloween. Director Dennis Illiadis is admirable in givingaudiences what they come to except from this kind of genre. The castfor the most part are good in their roles. Tony Goldwyn's convincing asJohn Collingwood and so is Monica Potter as his wife Emma. They're bothbelievable as their characters caught in this deadly cat and mouse gamewith their daughters attackers even when things can over the top attimes violence wise. Sara Paxton is equally impressive as theirdaughter Mari who is raped and left for dead. She shows some realtalent as an actress in her limited screen time. Garret Dillahunt iseffective as Krug a psychopathic prison escapee and the same can go toAaron Paul as his brother Francis and Riki Lindome as his twisted loverSadie. Spencer Treat Clark also turns in a good performance as Krugsson Justin whose conscience begins to weigh down on him. The rest ofthe cast are okay in their roles too. The violence committed by thegang and family are well executed. The suspense does build up once thefamily learns who Krug and his family are which doesn't quite pay offbut it's an admirable attempt none the less. Some of the deaths do goover the top but this is a horror movie so I'm willing to suspend mydisbelief. Despite some flaws with character development, moresuspense, and a little originality with the deaths this remake wasbetter than I thought it would be. The rape scene was appalling and itfelt unnecessary. The movie could've done without showing so much of itbut hey thats me. Overall though The Last House On The Left is one ofthe rare remakes out there that turns out to be a decent suspensehorror thriller thats sure to please almost any die hard fan of thegenre.
