Tooth Fairy (2010)
The tooth hurts.

Derek Thompson is 'The Tooth Fairy,' a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. When Derek discourages a youngster's hopes, he's sentenced to one week's hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek "can't handle the tooth" – bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers' homes…doing what tooth fairies do. But as Derek slowly adapts to his new position, he begins to rediscover his own forgotten dreams

I set through two screenings of this movie. Sadly the funniest partswere pretty much in the commercial. During both screenings, there werevery few hard laughs, a couple of chuckles and long silences from theaudience of mostly kids.

Dwayne Johnson did his best to add comedic timing to the material, butthe script is the real weak point here. Its pretty predictable and filled withprerequisite clichés – the sullen kid who needs encouragement, “fairyjokes”, the old guy that finds his way and redeems himself along theway…yadda yadda. Billy Crystal was unpredictably NOT funny (no laughsfrom the audience AT ALL) during his appearance which I found reallysad. Julie Andrews is a delight but her character is pretty much thesame character from other (better) movies like The Princess Diaries.

Go see this movie – you'll be glad that you did! We weren't sure aboutthis movie based on the ratings thus far, but we really enjoyed it! Itwas a great movie for a date night and had both my husband and I (aswell as the entire audience) laughing out loud at various timesthroughout the movie. It's not supposed to be a serious Oscar contender- it's a great, enjoyable, funny film about a tough guy who needs achange of perspective. The cast was wonderful, especially DwayneJohnson, who was perfect as the lovable tough guy. It was a pleasure towatch him, Julie Andrews, and Billy Crystal bring their characters tolife.

This is a perfect film for date night or the whole family – it's nicethat you can actually take your kids to see this non-animated moviethat's enjoyable for you all!
