After a truck is destroyed on a freeway, an alcoholic police officer(Emmanuelle Vaugier) and others are terrorized by a mysterious andviolent creature. As the night progresses, the group of survivors learnthat the creature is not of this Earth and attempting to destroy thehuman race.
The writer/director of Dead & Breakfast, a fun horror-comedy, andwriter of the upcoming reboot of Creepshow returns with Unearthed.Giving a quick scan of the DVD case, I see what's simultaneously theworst-looking cover and most unoriginal plot of the After Dark HorrorFest so far (from both years). It sounded more like a Sci-Fi Original'splot than it did a theatrically released horror film. Hell, even Sci-FiOriginals have more creativity in their plots (who will ever forgetRock Monster?). So, without an original storyline or, at least, coolartwork, Unearthed had a lot of work to do. As expected, it didn't comethrough. While the acting in this one was quite a bit better than theother After Dark Horrorfest films I've seen, the stale writing and lackof risky direction made for a very boring film. I, truly, have neverbeen less engaged by a film. I never once cared about the characters inperil. . . just hoped they would die quickly to get the film over with. The effects were, when finally seen, poorly done. There were almost noscares and even fewer moments of any suspense. Overall, there aren'treally any redeeming characteristics of this film. Not enjoyable, notenough violence/gore to please horrorhounds, no sex/nudity, nospectacularly well done writing or directing. . . really nothing goodat all.
Final verdict: 2.5/10.

The process in which contemporary monster movies are made seems toconsist of the same, tired method of unoriginal story lines thesedays… "Unearthed" is a painfully typical movie with some of the mostwooden, and contrived characters and dialogue I have seen in a longtime… Basically, the premise involves a 900 year old monster that hasremained dormant, underground since it was sedated by an old Indiantribe who apparently worshiped it until it turned on them. Now, it runsrampant in a small desert town, run by a hot sheriff chick. The rest ofthe movie runs through the dull and sorely familiar concept depictingintolerably stereotypical characters stranded in an isolated locationwhile being hunted by a bloodthirsty creature… Everything about thiscrap got on my nerves, such as the vulnerable protagonists: the toughhot chick, the cowboy stud, the dumb blond girl, the token black guy,the wise old Indian, and the rowdy, rebellious hunter… Another mainfocal point that irritated me was the lighting, which must have beenoperated by a goddamn chimp because I could not see a single thingduring the night time scenes in this… The creature was a poor CGIknock-off of "Alien" and the stupid ending seemed forced andeffortless… Horrible movie!

You mention similarity to the film Relic but it seems to me thatUnearthed is a slightly altered form of the story line of the popularfilm Tremors. The doughty townsfolk of a small, isolated town bandtogether to battle creatures that suddenly appear from underground. Thetown is conveniently cut off by something blocking the only road. Thecreatures seem to be of this earth but unknown until now. But whereTremors had humor and excitement and great special effects, this filmhas nothing. While watching Tremors it's easy to believe thesecreatures are real. While watching Unearthed I was constantly jarred bychanges in sound level and inexplicable changes in mood from apsychological study of a young, female sheriff to a typical monsterslasher film with odd bits of Indian legend and modern science thrownin. Add the dark, fuzzy action scenes and you have a real mess. It'slike a stew made by an inept cook. Go rent a copy of Tremors and avoidwatching Unearthed. You'll be glad you did.

I wanted to watch this, I really did. I like fearnetHD and even if someof the movies suck, I love the fact it exists at all so I give most ofthe movies they feature at least a chance.
Horror movie…check. High def….check. Drunken half naked sheriffchick…check.
I still turned it off 20 minutes in.
The plot was nonsensical: The road into town blocked. OK….but thepremise of the road being blocked is Charlie Murphy driving into townand going around the wreck that blocks the road. So if the wreck blocksthe road…how did he get around it and why can't anyone else?
Monster: SciFi channel at best. I remember when the SciFi channel madeFarscape. They now make garbage movies. This movie reminds me of thelater….onlyy worse.
I wanted to like this…it was so bad I didn't bother.

Watching "Unearthed" is a waste of time, since the forgettable story isnothing but a collection of clichés. Most of the characters areunpleasant and non-charismatic and the lead character is actually theanti-heroine Annie Flynn that is a drunken sheriff tormented by theaccidental death of an Indian girl. The scene of Caya and the aliencreature is another ridiculous rip-off of the classic scene of "Alien"with Sigourney Weaver. My vote is three.
