It has been awhile since Jim Carrey has come out with a comedy. His sadattempt at drama came in the form of The Number 23 last year in 2007,which completely sucked in all forms of sucking. Now he returns to thegenre he shines in and that is comedy. This movie doesn't deliverlaughs nonstop like in his other films, but the laughs are morerealistic unlike other Carrey movies in which he does some crazyantics. We also see some decent supporting performances from BradleyCooper and Danny Masterson, who play Carrey's friends. The movieactually does play Carrey as a totally different character, he normallyis a fun loving character, but in the beginning he is portrayed as anuptight person that never has any fun. It all changes and the plotunfolds when he begins to say yes to everything, which brings a prettyfunny cameo from Terrence Stamp. The movie actually ends on a decentmoral, with him deciding to only say yes to things he wants to andlearning the true meaning of saying yes. So basically it is worth awatch.

Well people, what can you say about Jim Carrey? He's hilarious! FromThe Mask to Bruce Almighty, he's been making us laugh. He's one of myfavorite comedians and I'm probably gonna give his other moviesreviews. Let me just state that this is all opinion and zero fact andthe only facts will be events in the movie. Jim Carrey's the man but inhere, he's the Yes Man. —————————————SpoilerLine——————————————————
So our main characters are Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) and Allison ( ZooeyDeschanel). They are likable and Carl is hilarious. Our villain is isthere a villain? Oh yes, our villain is a word NO. Wow, I neverthought a movie's main villain would be a word. Let alone a two-letterword. Well, since there is no villain, this will be a pass. Oursupporting characters are Norman (Rhys Darby), Pete (Bradley Cooper),Stephanie (Molly Sims), and Lucy (Sasha Alexander). These charactersare subtly placed in the story. Norman is Carl's boss, subtle. Pete isCarl's best friend, subtle. Stephanie is Carl's ex-wife, subtle. And,Lucy is Pete's fiancée that Carl has to throw a bridal shower for, subtle. Is the word subtle starting to sound weird to you? Anyway, these characters are played well and Norman is hilarious (It could bebiased since I'm a Harry Potter fan and a scene in the movie is well,WATCH THE MOVIE). The comedy in here could be clean or crude. Buteither way, it's hilarious (Once again I could be biased since the HPbit was hilarious for a Potterhead). Finally, the story is simple andgood. Carl keeps on giving up opportunities and saying no. He attends aseminar and makes a covenant to say "yes" to every opportunity. Andit's a chain of events from here on. This film can make you laugh and,to a minimal extent, feel sad. So overall, I give Yes Man, an 83%awesome.

I think it is safe to say that for Generation Yrs, Jim Carry is theking of comedy. I know I grew up on Dumb And Dumber, Ace Ventura: WhenNature Calls, and Liar Liar – there is no one who does funny quite likeJim Carrey. Carrey's reign of so-funny-it-hurts films have hit a slumpsince the turn of the century (though his stints in dramatic roles haveimproved), but Yes Man is probably the best Jim Carrey comedy sinceLiar Liar in 1997.
Carrey stars as Carl Allen, a recently divorced man who spends his daysat a job that he does not feel motivated to move up in (or leave) andhis nights at his apartment watching DVDs. Because his friends havegrown tired of his seeming desire to not do anything with them, Carlparticipates in a self-help program "Yes Man" where he has to say yesto everything for an entire year. This changes Carl in a profound wayas he bursts out of his shell having fun and meeting people (includinga new girlfriend Allison). But as Carl follows the "Yes Man" program toa "T," he learns that sometimes "yes" is the wrong answer.
Yes Man is a very good film – it is overall film fun and even gets alittle bit meaningful. Jim Carrey carries the film with his traditionalstyle of humor and entertaining presence, making the film worthwhileall by himself, and Zooey Deschanel also makes a nice supportingshowing as Allison. Yes Man might not be one of the films that set aJim Carrey comedic gold standard but it is a top 10 Carrey comedy – andan entertaining one at that.

A lot of likable characters plus a thoughtful story. Apparently themovie is everything I didn't expect. It appeared to be a little toostereotypical when I saw the trailer. The protagonist got a dead-endlife, and a chance of change just came in the form of a mental seminar. It sounds a lit too alike those "don't believe the cheap Americandream" style of story. So I was expecting the "spiritual teacher" toturn out a cult hierarch who drives people into his whatever-magnitudeconspiracy. And Jim Carrey's gonna do something to stop him. Howstereotypical I was.
The story, implied by the plot outline on this site, was aself-exploration story which is relevant to us, everyone who's in adead-end status quo on this planet. But it offered more, it's writtenwith heart and the performances deserved many praises. The storymanaged to pull the brake at perfect timings before it's gone totallycrazy for several times. Finally it turned out to be both hilarious andinspiring. It got the message delivered that those straight-mindedpeople really deserved more care, understanding and guidance. Yet it'snot really selling any tin-can theory on the big screen. The finalmoments are very well done. It could be one of the best comedic endingI've ever seen.Carrey's comfortable in the title role, though I am notsure if he was totally comfortable with everything he was asked to doduring filming. Zooey did a her part and stole the show every singletime she's on screen, not only for her hot appearance, but also for hercomedian talents. Anyway audiences could be mislead by the trailer andskip it, but the movie's better than its trailer, and that's a rarething in the industry today.
Well, there are some awkward moments, and all of them are related to anelder woman who tried to seduce Jim everyday. When I watched it, Ishook my head and thought that's the only thing overdone. the makersmanaged to set the tones right and got the movie a PG-13 rating, butIMO that single scene could get the movie an R. Anyway the wholemovie's too mature for a 13-years-old.
8 stars, if they delete or alter the scene I mentioned I'd give it 9.

Overall, this movie is wonderful. But it could be bad, too. It dependson how you look at it. If you look at it as a comedy, you see it isn'texactly Carrey's best, but it's decent enough to rent. If you look atit as a romance, then you see it isn't very fulfilling, what with toomuch comedy and stupidity. Now I don't see it as one of these things..I see it as a love story that happens to make you laugh. Two peoplepractically MADE for each other that fall in love, a ridiculous premiseinvolving a cult and a wise old man that sees the whole picture as theleader of that cult, and a lonesome and horny ex-wife. These three arethe ultimate romantic comedy- no, no. Scratch that. This isn't aromantic comedy, this is a genuine love story with a pinch of humor. These three items make the ultimate love story, making you j*** in yourpants because of the sheer awesomeness. When you go out to buy the DVD(and make sure you buy it, because you'll want to watch it over andover again) and watch it, wear protection.. No one likes sticky j*** ofawesomeness in their pants..

I'll start off by saying that I read the sublime Danny Wallace bookover a year and a half ago, and was sceptical about watching thisapparent slap-stick filled spin off from the book, as Danny Wallacehimself has said in plenty an interview, "He fell over a lot more thanI ever did." From the trailer, everything about the film just reeked ofgeneric formulaic comedy, however, I was pleasantly surprised. Eventhough there are a few scenes where Carrey acts in a similar fashion toa 6 year old who's been loaded up on orange squash, making youuncertain whether to laugh or cringe, there are twice as many sceneswhere he makes you genuinely laugh out loud (or lol, as the filmstarget audience would say).
I felt the same feeling upon watching this film as I did when I readthe book: the feeling of wanting to follow in the protagonistsfootsteps and say YES to everything. This film struck a chord with meas I often turn down social invitations to instead sit at home watchingendless DVDs and writing reviews of said DVDs on IMDb.com, but we'veall got to spend our Friday nights somehow. This alone sets the filmabove most other generic comedies as it has a genuine optimisticquality which rubs off on the viewer.
However, underneath this meaningful message of how just one simple wordcan change and improve your life forever, it is still essentially ageneric formulaic comedy, albeit a particularly good and moving one,but will still just fall into the endless abyss of similar movies andwill be easily forgotten.
A film which you just have to say YES to, but no more than once.

Yes Man starts off pretty interesting, though the more you watch it themore you notice it's another chick flick in disguise. Where this filmisn't arrogant and selfish like most "they fall in love, they have afight, then they get back together" films it makes up for it by havingsome fairly clever jokes from our main actor Jim Carey who proves he'smore than someone who puts on silly voices and faces and yells a lot.
Thankfully Jim Carey is no Will Ferrel. When we see him placed in aserious role and actually enjoy it we all know we will see him returnto that formula once again; whilst he is no Ace Ventura or The CableGuy we still see some ridiculousness that the film's humour seems torely on. In fact the entire film somewhat relies on Carey to make thisfilm what it is. But! I like a movie where the comedy orbits around themain character and those he surrounds himself by. No poo jokes, no sextricks, no big butt jokes, no racial slurs and nothing dirty. It's onlya little bit above average and it's simple humour which is stillrefreshing in comparison to most comedies which suffer the previouslymentioned jokes as it provides one leaving the theatres in a feel-goodatmosphere.
The plot is really cliché with a dogmatic and rude protagonist whotakes a different turn making it fun for everyone…but that's whatthis movie is, a fun and sweet comedy. I don't think it's really aimingto be anything else. It isn't striving to hit the reality nail right onthe head, it's a story that has been done plenty of times before, onlywith a different perspective and lead actors.
I would still recommend this movie to children as there isn't anythingrude, sexual or offensive. It's an enjoyable movie if you're intocomedy that isn't like Date Movie or Van Wilder. It's also reallyfeel-good where everyone's a winner. Don't expect too much originalityon the horizon though; just take it for what it is. Fun.
